Just before we (and the FA) get too 'holier than though', let's just remind ourselves: How many players in the Premiership (and the among the rest of the English, Welsh and Scottish clubs) can you name who are open about their sexual orientation? Oh, that'll be none, then. Maybe the impetus needs to come from the teams themselves, rather than from clearly misleading statements by the FA about our supposed moral superiority in this respect.

Re Roland: you can't judge a whole people based on the actions of a few soccer hooligans! Spain is one of the most gay-friendly countries in the EU, having arguably the most gay-friendly legislation on the continent (incl. full gay marriage) and consistently ranking among the highest in polls relating to acceptance of LGBT people.

The problem, of course, is more to do with soccer than with Spain. In every country, a lot more needs to be done to root out homophobia in sport.

Stupid does and stupid is. The Spanish homophobes are simply showing their disgusting truth- they are homophobe freaks, who need to learn to love and treat everyone with respect.

They are neathendrals; they need to learn to flow with the beauty of the world.
