ikkitikkitavi, you do not need to apologise for Nigeria. Some of the comments on this site can be naturally inflamed, and sometimes quite rightly so… passion is a good thing But no-one could or should blames all Nigerians for the actions of the government, no more than we can blame all Americans for the travesty of democracy that was George W Bush.

I do agree with Ciaran though, that the EU needs to start seeing this kind of legislation as out of spirit with the way the EU does business and avoid Nigerian trade.

I am sorry for this comment because I am Nigerian/American and a lesbian. I pray that their eyes will be opened to realize that God is love and we do not choose to isolate ourselves by being "perverts." Please don't think that all Nigerians are like this. It's just uneducated and traditional bigots. Sorry on behalf of those os us who ARE enlightened to know what truly is right and wrong.

A country's human rights record, and laws to protect all their citizens, is a benchmark for how civilised their culture has become and how far they have advanced.

By this criteria, Nigeria must be country of inbred animals barely able to smash a two rocks together. I wonder if one offers their populous some pig swill in a bucket would they be more tolerant of other people?

Why are the EU still trading with these people? There is sanction for Zimbabwe because of human rights abuses, but if they persecute a few queers, no one seems to give a hoot. I for one will be checking any Nigerian products I'm buying and will promptly stop.
