Actually, the chair of the Democratic National Committee is "Gov. Howard Dean" (not "Gov. Warren Dean"). He was governor of neighboring Vermont for about 12 years before running for president in 2004 and then taking the helm of the national party.

While I believe strongly in the separation of church and state, I personally do not object to the inclusion of faith leaders in a president's inaugural ceremony as long as they either speak strictly and pointedly only for themselves (and never on behalf of all, as if to imply that all Americans believe as the faith leader does) or are inclusive of ALL possible faiths.

"So if your President Elect desires to have his Inauguration blessed by a Priest, he is completely within his Rights to have this done. A tolerant and inclusive society would understand and support this."

You are incorrect AMPisAnglican. If Obama is going to invite cult members like Warren and Robinson to spout their superstitious beliefs at his inauguration he is not being inclusive to the catholic, muslim, jewish or mormon etc etc cults who had no representative speaking on their behalf (and neither did he invite an atheist speaker to speak on behalf of secular humanists). Therefore if he wanted to be inclusive he would either invite a speaker of every religious cult in the US or invite none. The fact that he only invited the Warren and Robinson cultists mean he was being anything but inclusive. This lack of inclusivity is part of the poisonous influence of organised religions/cults.

I still maintain that a secular nation should not be in the business of appeasing religious cults.

Simon Murphy seems to be ignorant of US history.

The separation of Church and State was never intended to result in a secular or “atheist” country. At the time (late 1700’s) many Americans had left England, which for its own security reasons after years of Catholic/Protestant wars, had “The Established Church”. The Established Church, at that time, meant that the Church was part of the Government (Bishops to this day hold seats in the English House of Lords), and the Government had authority over the Church. The intention of the Separation of Church and State was to end this institutionalized religious discrimination.

The US also has the Bill of Rights, which includes both the Right to Freedom of Religion, and Freedom of Expression. So if your President Elect desires to have his Inauguration blessed by a Priest, he is completely within his Rights to have this done. A tolerant and inclusive society would understand and support this.

That Simon refers to my Faith as a cult, and Reverend Warren and Mr. Robinson as a lunatics is hateful, insensitive, and insulting.

Glad he enjoyed it. But his attendance at the inauguration of the president of a secular democracy was as disgustingly inappropriate as the presence of the facist Rick Warren. The US constitution promises a separation between church and state. The fact that cult members like Warren and Robinson were invited (as representatives of their religious cults instead of simply private citizens) should make us all worried. The secular nation of the US is in serious danger because of these religious lunatics
