How sad that on his return to the UK his legal marriage will NOT be recognised as such but converted to a civil partnership. The two are most definitely NOT the same obviously. Absurd and altogether "sick". This could only happen in the UK. At least in the U.S. where same-sex marriage is legal in two states, foreign gay couples who marry are accorded full recognition of their marriages in Massachusetts, Connecticut and in New York, a state taht does not yet confer equality on LGBT people yet but is the first to recognise out of state and foreign same-sex marriages. In the case of the two states where marriage for gay people is legal....the state governments there do NOT convert them into civil unions that were previously on the books.
