17 August 2006Builder guilty of lesbian family murder + A former builder who murdered a lesbian and her family after having his sexual advances rejected has been jailed for life today.David Morris, 44, was found guilty of murder at Newport Crown Court today in a retrial relating to the killing of four family members across three generations in 1999.

15 August 2006Philippines to vote on gay law 57 A new law has been placed before the Philippine Senate this week; Senate Bill 1738 regarding discrimination in the work place.Following support for Bill 1738 by Philippine Senators Ramon Revilla, Luisa Ejercito Estrada, and Miriam Defensor-Santiago, as well as international organisations such as Human Rights Watch (HRW) and the Lesbian and Gay Legislative Advocacy (LAGABLAB), the bill is currently in the committee stage. -

14 August 2006Gay sex at 16 legal, Man + The 'Tynwald', the Isle of Man's independent legislature, has voted to bring the homosexual age of consent into line with that of heterosexuals on the island, simultaneously scrapping rules stopping the discussion of homosexuality in schools on the island between teacher and pupil.The Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act will come into force on September 1 2006 after the bill was passed with 15 votes for and 3 against, with the amended law felt by many to be long overdue. -
11 August 2006Massachusetts rejects gay bar attack victim’s abuse plea + The state of Massachusetts on Tuesday dismissed allegations by a gay man who said he was physically and verbally abused by paramedics who delayed his treatment after he was shot and attacked with a hatchet at a gay bar.The state's Executive Office of Health and Human Services ruled that Robert Perry's complaint about a delay in treatment was "invalid," saying it could not substantiate his allegations.

11 August 2006New scheme for reporting hate crimes at gay bars 1 An innovative method of reporting homophobic attacks has been hailed a success by the West London Gay Men's Project.Over 30 incidents have been reported via an i-kiosk installed inside the well-known Birdcage pub in Chiswick.The aim of the project is to increase monitoring of hate crimes, and victims have the option of requesting further assistance from police if they wish to pursue the incident. -

8 August 2006Germany grants asylum to Iranian lesbian 1 A German court ruled on Monday that an Iranian lesbian cannot be deported because she faces a death sentence if returned to Iran because of her sexuality.According to the Associated Press, the 27-year-old woman, whose name was not released, travelled to Germany in September 2003 and applied for asylum.
