7 August 2006Vermont claims jurisdiction over lesbians’ custody battle + The Vermont Supreme Court ruled on Friday that its courts, and not those in Virginia, have exclusive jurisdiction over a case involving two lesbians battling for custody of a child they had while they were in a relationship.The Associated Press reports that the unanimous ruling conflicts with a series of decisions in Virginia, where courts ruled the state's anti-gay-marriage laws controlled the case. -
7 August 2006Pennsylvania Senator endorses anti-homophobia law + Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum on Wednesday became the 170th member of Congress to affirm that they do not discriminate in their own employment practices based on an individual's sexual orientation or gender identity and expression."We welcome Senator Santorum's signature affirming the need for basic equality in his own hiring practices," said Riki Wilchins, executive director of the Gender Public Advocacy Coalition. -

4 August 2006“Only gay in the village” jailed for burglary 1 A gay burglar was caught by police after his victim recognised the "distinctive" way he walks, a court was told yesterday.Lance Williams, 19, was one of three men who broke into the home of Nigel Jones and robbed him at knifepoint.Only Williams was caught after Mr Jones remembered the "camp" way he was walking and pointed it out on CCTV in the Welsh town of Rhymney, which has a population of under 6,000. -

3 August 2006San Diego homophobic attack trio behind bars + All three San Diego men accused of violently attacking a group of men near the Southern California town's Gay Pride Festival are behind bars.According to San Diego's NBC affiliate, channel 4, police arrested the third suspect, a 16-year-old male without incident on Tuesday night, charging him with attempted murder. -
