27 April 2007Brian Paddick to leave the Met early + The most senior gay police officer in the UK is to retire more than a year early.Brian Paddick, who is currently a Deputy Assistant Commissioner in London's Metropolitan Police, is understood to have asked to be allowed to stand down before the end of his current contract.He is to leave the force at the end of May. -
26 April 2007Notre Dame lesbian wedding protesters fined one euro 1 Gay activists in France who staged a mock wedding in the country's most famous church have been fined one euro (68p) by a court.In June 2005 a lesbian couple in wedding dresses walked up the aisle of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris and an activist dressed as a priest conducted a mock ceremony.In front of shocked tourists, the lesbian couple exchanged rings and kissed. -
26 April 2007Wife of trans dentist worried about new birth certificate + Counsel for a mother of two whose husband is seeking a new birth certificate after transitioning into a woman has told the Irish High Court that such a ruling would create "enormous uncertainty."Anne Foy is legally separated from Dr Lydia Foy.Dr Foy is asking the court to order that the 2002 decision not to issue her with a new birth certificate breaches the European Convention on Human Rights. -

20 April 2007Moscow Pride loses slander case against mayor 1 A court in Russia has ruled that the homophobic Mayor of Moscow did not slander gay activists by calling their gay pride parade "satanic."The organiser of the event, Nicolas Alexeyev, had filed a lawsuit at Moscow's Tverskoi District Court.In addition to demanding a retraction, parade organisers were seeking 1,000 roubles (£19) each in compensation for moral damage. -
20 April 2007Women who forced children to fight escape jail 1 A grandmother and three of her daughters who encouraged a two-year-old boy and his three-year-old sister to fight, then filmed it, have been given suspended sentences.Carole Oliver, 48, and Zara, 29, Serenza, 29, and Danielle, 19, all pleaded guilty to inciting the ill treatment of children.One of the four can be heard on the tape calling the boy a "faggot" when he did not fight his sister.

18 April 2007Aruba must recognise Dutch gay weddings + The Netherlands' supreme court has ruled that legislation allowing same-sex unions must be recognized in Aruba, a constituent country of Holland.The decision follows a row over a same-sex couple who were denied the right to register their union in Aruba's civil register.Aruba refused to recognise same-sex marriages in 2005 although it did legalise homosexual relations between consenting adults in private.

16 April 2007Church of England gay policy incoherent, tribunal told 11 An employment tribunal in Cardiff heard today that the attitude of the Church of England towards gay people is inconsistent.Youth worker John Reaney is bringing the Hereford Diocesan Board of Finance to the tribunal, claiming that he was discriminated against on the grounds of his sexuality.Mr Reaney was previously employed as a youth officer for the Norwich and Chester Church of England diocese.
