27 April 2007Brian Paddick to leave the Met early + The most senior gay police officer in the UK is to retire more than a year early.Brian Paddick, who is currently a Deputy Assistant Commissioner in London's Metropolitan Police, is understood to have asked to be allowed to stand down before the end of his current contract.He is to leave the force at the end of May. -

18 April 2007Aruba must recognise Dutch gay weddings + The Netherlands' supreme court has ruled that legislation allowing same-sex unions must be recognized in Aruba, a constituent country of Holland.The decision follows a row over a same-sex couple who were denied the right to register their union in Aruba's civil register.Aruba refused to recognise same-sex marriages in 2005 although it did legalise homosexual relations between consenting adults in private. -
