7 September 2006Schwarzenegger vetoes gay school bill + Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger yesterday vetoed a bill prohibiting Californian public schools from portraying gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people negatively."I am vetoing Senate Bill 1437 because this bill attempts to offer vague protection when current law already provides clear protection against discrimination in our schools based on sexual orientation," the governor wrote in his veto letter to the Senate. -
7 September 2006Gay community protests violent porn bill 6 Sections of the gay community have joined protests against proposed legislation which would make possession of violent and extreme pornographic material a crime.The controversial law has been put through consultation by the Home Office after a campaign from family and friends of Jane Longhurst who was murdered in 2003 by a violent porn addict. -
6 September 2006Preacher denies Cardiff Mardi Gras charges 2 Stephen Green, director of Christian Voice, has appeared in magistrates court following his arrest last weekend at Cardiff Mardi Gras.He denied charges that he had used threatening words and behaviour whilst handing out leaflets entitled "Same-sex love - same-sex sex: What does the Bible say?" at the entrance to the Cardiff festival on Saturday, reports BBC News Online. -
6 September 2006Transsexual recognition increasing in South Korea + South Korea has seen an increasing amount of transsexuals applying for gender reassignment since a landmark case allowed a transgender male to be legally recognised earlier this year.The Supreme Court announced that 17 transsexuals have applied to have their gender registered on legal records since the ruling last June. -

4 September 2006Anti gay protester held after Mardi Gras 7 Stephen Green, director of Christian Voice, was arrested at the Cardiff Mardi Gras for leafleting on Saturday.Mr Green was approached by officers who asked him to stop leafleting people, but he was arrested when he continued to distribute leaflets with extracts taken from the Gospel.

1 September 2006Woman dies in fire at gay sauna + West Yorkshire police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a woman died in a 'suspicious' fire in Leeds.The Spartan Mantalk Sauna, which formed part of an end-terrace house in the Harehills area of the city, was gutted in the blaze.A woman was rescued by fire crews at around 4am this morning, but she did not survive. -
