28 June 2007Gang targeting gay men in Brighton + Police in Brighton, a city often referred to as the gay capital of England, have issued a warning after two vicious homophobic attacks left their victims seriously injured.The attacks, which both occurred around the Preston Park area, are thought to be the work of one gang described as four Afro-Carribean men in a red saloon.In the first incident, a 39 and 36 year-old male couple were walking along Hamilton Road, near the park. -
27 June 2007Test case on gender reassignment for prisoner + A test case to determine whether a convicted criminal in Boston should be granted a $20,000 (£10,000) sex-change operation at prison expense is still on-going after a year, despite costing $52,000 in expert witness fees alone.The crux of the case rests on whether Michelle Kosilek, formerly Robert Kosilek, needs the surgery as a matter of medical necessity.Kosilek, 58, was convicted of murdering his wife in 1990, claiming it was in self-defence after she split burning tea on his genitals. -

26 June 2007School says sorry for gay kiss censorship + Officials from the Newark City School District have issued an apology after a male student's year book picture was ordered to be blacked out with marker pen because it contained a gay kiss.The 4.5-by-5-inch photo showed pupil Andre Jackson, 18, turning round to kiss boyfriend, David Escobales, 19, over his right shoulder.The picture, which he had paid $150 to include on a special tribute page, was accompanied by similar poses from heterosexual couples. -

22 June 2007Supreme Court rules Moscow Pride ban was legal + Organisers of a banned Pride event today received a decision of Russia's Supreme Court on the appeal their appeal against a lower court.Senior judges sided with the arguments of Tverskoi district court of Moscow that the march ban was lawful.The case was considered in the first instance on 26 May 2006, one day before the scheduled date of the Pride parade. -
21 June 2007Anglican schism could start in Winnipeg + The general synod of the Anglican Church in Canada is meeting today to consider decisions that could split the church.The meeting of bishops, clergy and laity, held every three years, is to consider tomorrow whether same-sex couples should be allowed a church blessing.Six former Archbishops have come out in favour of blessing gay and lesbian relationships. -
21 June 2007Protester planned to bomb Jerusalem gay Pride 2 The discovery of a small homemade bomb intended for the parade route of a gay rights march has heightened tensions in the holy city of Jerusalem.The parade has now finished, with 18 people arrested for attempting to disrupt the event.There have been small violent incidents across the city in protest at the gay Pride, which Orthodox Jews regard as unbiblical and unsuitable. -
21 June 2007Teenage lesbians vindicated over bus kiss + A bus driver who kicked two 14-year-old girls off a bus in Oregon for kissing will be disciplined, it has been announced.A spokesman for Portland's transit system said the driver, who had eleven years experience, had broken company policy."Removing the girls from the bus was not consistent with our policy," said TriMet General Manager Fred Hansen. -

20 June 2007New York lawmakers approve gay marriage 1 Gay rights advocates in New York celebrated what they called a watershed victory Tuesday as the state Assembly approved legislation to legalise same-sex marriage with an 85-61 vote.Sponsored by the openly gay brother of entertainer Rosie O'Donnell and supported by Governor Eliot Spitzer, the approval came after an often emotional three-hour debate.According to the Associated Press the bill is not expected to be acted on any time soon in the Republican-led state Senate. -
19 June 2007Churches try to overturn gay discrimination laws 1 The High Court in Belfast has reserved judgement on a legal challenge to new laws protecting gay people from discrimination.A coalition of Christian groups had been granted permission to seek a judicial review regarding new gay equality laws in Northern Ireland.After six days, Mr Justice Weatherup said it would take him 'some time' to come to a judgement. -

16 June 2007Michael Barrymore released on bail without charge + Gay comic Michael Barrymore who was arrested with two other men over the death of Stuart Lubbock has been released without charge.Meat factory worker Stuart Lubbock was found dead in Barrymore's swimming pool after a party in March 2001.In June 2001 Barrymore and two other men were arrested and bailed in connection with the incident. -
15 June 2007Acclaimed disabled gay actor fights eviction + Firdaus Kanga, a gay, disabled writer and actor, who wrote and starred in the semi-autobiographical film Sixth Happiness, is bringing a legal action to halt his eviction from disabled-adapted housing in Islington, north London.Peter Tatchell and LGBTI human rights group OutRage! is backing Mr Firdaus's battle to keep his flat."This case is about the housing rights and security of disabled people, and about the universality of the laws protecting disabled people against discrimination," said Mr Tatchell.
