21 February 2008Toilet murder victim is named 9 A gay man who was fatally stabbed in a public toilet in Surrey known as a cruising spot has been named as Peter Jeffrey Akers.The 50-year-old from Wallington was attacked with a large carving knife at around 3pm on Tuesday in toilets near Walton Bridge that police said are "a popular meeting place for men."He was taken by air ambulance to St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey where he died at 5.30pm. -

20 February 2008Spanish judge suspended over lesbian ruling + A judge in Spain who ordered a mother to choose between her partner and her daughters, because "a homosexual environment threatened their education," has been suspended.The body which supervises the judiciary in that country, the General Council for Judicial Power, has suspended Fernando Ferrín Calamita and a complaint about his behaviour is under investigation.The woman, from Murcia, south east Spain, was faced with the impossible choice after her husband discovered her in a compromising position with another woman. -

20 February 2008Moscow gays want one million euros compensation for Pride ban + The ban placed on the organisation of a gay Pride march in Moscow in 2007 was a breach of human rights, the organisers have said in a letter to the European Court of Human Rights.They are asking the court to rule on the ban and want one million euros compensation.The legal action against the Russian authorities is the second brought by Moscow Pride organisers, who are also asking for a ruling on the 2006 Pride march ban. -

15 February 2008California gay teen murdered at school 25 A fifteen-year-old boy shot in the head by a fellow pupil at school on Tuesday has been declared brain dead.Lawrence King, who was reportedly openly gay and sometimes wore 'feminine' clothing to school, was shot twice while in class at a junior high school in Oxnard, California.A fourteen-year-old boy, Brandon McInerney has been arrested and charged with murder. -

12 February 2008South African police to act against homophobic officers + South Africa's Police Inspectorate has promised "decisive action" against officers who ridicule gay people or ignore homophobic hate crimes.Last week human rights groups and gay activists launched the 07-07-07 Campaign.On that day last year two lesbian women, 34 year old Sizakele Sigasa and 23 year old Salome Masooa, were raped, tortured and killed in Meadowlands, Soweto.
