20 February 2008Moscow gays want one million euros compensation for Pride ban + The ban placed on the organisation of a gay Pride march in Moscow in 2007 was a breach of human rights, the organisers have said in a letter to the European Court of Human Rights.They are asking the court to rule on the ban and want one million euros compensation.The legal action against the Russian authorities is the second brought by Moscow Pride organisers, who are also asking for a ruling on the 2006 Pride march ban. -

18 February 2008Riots in Senegal over gay “wedding” photos 5 Gangs of protestors clashed with riot police in Dakar on Friday after a magazine published photos of an alleged wedding between two men.Newspapers and radio stations in the Senegalese capital have been filled with stories about the arrest and release of several men after tabloid magazine Icone ran the photos in their February edition.Friday's demonstration, which took place in front of Dakar's main mosque, had initially been authorised by police. -

15 February 2008California gay teen murdered at school 25 A fifteen-year-old boy shot in the head by a fellow pupil at school on Tuesday has been declared brain dead.Lawrence King, who was reportedly openly gay and sometimes wore 'feminine' clothing to school, was shot twice while in class at a junior high school in Oxnard, California.A fourteen-year-old boy, Brandon McInerney has been arrested and charged with murder. -

11 February 2008Court backs children’s books encouraging gay tolerance + A Massachusetts federal appeals court ruled last week that an elementary school can continue to use children's books that encourage tolerance for gay people.The ACLU welcomed the decision, which rejected the claims of parents who said exposing their children to such books violated their ability to direct the religious training of their children.There has never been a federal case finding a constitutional right of parents to exempt their children from exposure to books used in public schools. -

8 February 2008Radio 4 presenter cleared of rape 8 BBC Radio 4 presenter Nigel Wrench was today cleared by a court of raping a man that he met at a New Years Eve party.He was accused of drugging and sexually assaulting the 26-year-old after inviting him back to his flat in north London after meeting him at a New Years party.
