14 March 2008New rules on HIV prosecutions released 4 New guidelines on how prosecutors should deal with cases involving the intentional or reckless transmission of STIs have been published by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) today.The CPS has devised a public policy and guidance statement that covers the Code for Crown Prosecutors and how it should be implemented in all cases.The guide also outlines offences the CPS will consider in relation to cases of the intentional or reckless sexual transmission of infection. -

11 March 2008Tribunal hearing over civil partnerships on forms 11 An employment tribunal has ruled that a Catholic couple from Scotland can pursue their claim of sexual and religious discrimination against Strathclyde Police over its definition of the term 'marital status.'Devout Catholics Lucille and Frank McQuade claim that Scotland's largest police force is guilty of religious discrimination after altering its civilian employee records to change their status from "married" to "married/civil partnership."Mr McQuade, 49, a communications officer with the force, said that no slur was intended on the gay community. -
7 March 2008Jail for lesbian couple who murdered teenager + Two lesbian lovers have been jailed for life after bludgeoning a British girl to death in Australia because they found her "annoying."Jessica Stasinowsky, 21 and Valerie Parashumti, 19, pleaded guilty to murdering 16-year old Stacey Mitchell, whose family had moved to Australia from West Moors, Dorset in 2001.The court was told that the two women became sexually aroused as they beat the teenager with a concrete block and made a mobile phone video of the murder scene. -

4 March 2008Lesbian group criticise police in Croatia + A group representing lesbians in Croatia has questioned why only one person has been prosecuted for attacking last year's Pride parade in the capital city of Zagreb.Last week Josip Situm was convicted of endangering lives and property and ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment while behind bars after being found guilty of a hate crime.Police spotted him at the Pride event in Zagreb on 7th July 2007 with petrol bombs, but he fled the scene. -

29 February 2008Teacher’s victory in gay discrimination case 1 A young gay teacher has received an unqualified apology from the governors of a school which formerly employed him after a landmark case for harassment under sexual orientation employment regulations.The school's governing body accepted guilt and made an unreserved apology before the case went to full procedure.This was the first case in UK law that saw a teacher taking his school to tribunal under the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003. -
29 February 2008Iranian asylum seeker’s deportation delayed + A gay teenager who was due to be deported to the UK earlier this week is still in detention in Holland.19-year-old Medhi Kazemi, who faces possible execution by stoning if he returns to Iran, fled for the Netherlands last year after his appeal for asylum in the UK was refused.He is awaiting the ruling of Dutch court next Monday on whether he should be returned to the UK, who want to deport him to Iran. -
28 February 2008Car salesman loses employment tribunal 2 A man who claimed that he was forced to leave his job because of homophobic abuse from fellow workers has lost his case at an employment tribunal.Ben Hamilton, 26, was claiming that persistent remarks about his sexuality amounted to constructive unfair dismissal and discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation.The tribunal questioned why he made no complaints about his treatment before he resigned from his job as a salesman at the BMW showroom in Chandler's Ford in October 2006. -
28 February 2008Second man released in gay village murder investigation 1 A 66-year-old man, arrested on Monday on suspicion of murder of Craig Douglas, has been freed on police bail pending further inquiries until 24th March.A 49-year-old man who was also arrested in connection with the incident was earlier released without charge.Inquiries into the circumstances of Mr Douglas' death continue and police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
