30 July 2007Rise in number of lesbians using artificial insemination 1 Lesbian families and single women could become the largest group using donor insemination at fertility clinics, according to new figures.The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) figures reveal that the proportion of single women and women in same-sex relationships seeking artificial insemination went from 18% of the total in 1999 to 38% last year.The figure has risen from 28% to 38% in the past three years. -

28 June 2007US observes national HIV testing day + Yesterday was America's 15th annual National HIV Testing Day, which was initiated by the National Association of People with AIDS and supported by the Centre for Disease Control.The purpose of the event is to help increases awareness of HIV and AIDS, and the day helps promote early diagnosis and testing for HIV through safe and effective methods.According to recent studies conducted by the CDC, around one-fourth of the estimated one million people living with HIV in the United States are unaware that they are infected.

26 June 2007Supermarket chain withdraws gay support + Retail giant Wal-Mart, has withdrawn its corporate support for LGBT organisations.The move comes just a year after Wal-Mart joined the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, an organisation that helps promote the growth of LGBT owned or friendly organisations.The company was responding to pickets and threats of boycott by conservative Christian groups. -
