HIV ‘epidemics’ emerging in gay men in North Africa and the Middle East 17
5:10 PM — New research suggests that HIV epidemics are emerging in North Africa and the Middle East among men who have sex with men (MSM). According to researchers from Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, countries such as Egypt, Sudan, Pakistan and Tunisia are seeing high rates of infection in gay and bisexual men.

1:48 PM — A 750,000 euro donation from Elton John to combat HIV in Ireland has not been spent, it has emerged. The singer gave the money to the government two years ago to be used in a clean needle project for drug addicts.

US to look again at gay blood donation ban 2
2:00 PM — The US Department of Health and Human Services is to look again at the lifetime blood donation ban for men who have had gay sex. The department said yesterday that the current policy is "sub-optimal" and announced it has instructed advisors to study whether the strict rules can be relaxed.

Gay men ‘unaware of HIV symptoms’ 53
5:30 PM — Sixty per cent of gay men are unaware of the symptoms of early HIV infection, a large-scale survey has found. According to the research by National AIDS Trust, most of the men surveyed could not name the ‘triad’ of a sore throat, rash and fever as the most common symptoms occurring together.

12:08 PM — Gay men taking bicalutamide for prostate cancer are more likely to experience sexual dysfunction than straight men, a study says. Researchers in Romania and the US studied 17 straight men and 12 gay men receiving a 50mg daily dose of bicalutamide before and after their treatment.
