Although US audiences will see the raunchy scenes with Barrowman's bisexual character Captain Jack Harkness, BBC bosses decided they would be too explicit for a UK audience, even after the watershed.

5:33 PM — George Michael has hit out at Top Gear host Jeremey Clarkson after the latter made a joke suggesting he was sexually promiscuous. Earlier this month, Michael tweeted a video of a man driving a pink Bentley and joked: "I swear this is real. And I sound like Jeremy Clarkson with someone's finger up his arse ... its a camp classic all round."

2:12 PM — Art critic Brian Sewell has complained that there are too many gay characters in British soaps and accused the BBC of spreading "sexual propaganda" to children. Writing in today's Daily Mail, Sewell, who has said he is bisexual, contended that the wide range of LGBT characters in soaps make "sane" viewers feel their noses are being "rubbed in it".

2:39 PM — The BBC has has to defend a gay kiss on Holby City, just a week after more than 100 viewers complained about a gay scene in EastEnders. Viewers complained that a kiss between Dan Hamilton (Adam Astill) and Antoine Malick (Jimmy Akingbola) was "inappropriate".
