Singapore bans game over lesbian scene
10:10 AM — An X box game has been banned by state censors in Singapore because of a lesbian love scene.The authorities in the city state are among the most repressive in the free world.Computer games are not allowed to "feature exploitative or gratuitous sex and violence, or denigrate any race or religion."The game, Mass Effect, will be launched across the world next week.

Stonewall criticises BBC’s gay representation
2:55 PM — The chief executive of the UK's leading gay equality organisation has told a diversity conference that gay and lesbian people are "massively underserved" by the BBC.Ben Summerskill said that £200m of the BBC's £3bn licence fee is paid by gay citizens, who were not getting proper representation on screen.Recent research by Stonewall found that gay people and their lives are five times more likely to be portrayed in negative terms on the BBC.

BBC soap to get new gay character
3:29 PM — EastEnders, the most-watched programme on the BBC, is to get a new gay character in the New Year.The gay brother of character Jane Beale will arrive in Albert Square in early 2008.The soap's executives were inspired to include a gay character after a similar move by ITV's Coronation St proved to be a big hit with viwers.The Mirror reported: "The bosses at EastEnders have seen how well Antony Cotton does as Sean in Corrie."

CBS to make news programme for US gay network
5:35 PM — American LGBT cable channel Logo is planning to screen a half-hour weekly news programme by CBS News."CBS News on Logo" will premiere next Monday evening. The news broadcast stems from a two-year partnership between the MTV Networks channel and CBS News.CBS News had been producing three-minute bulletins that aired daily on Logo.

G-A-Y awards will not be televised
2:23 PM — The inaugural G-A-Y awards will not now be televised on Sky One on 1st December to coincide with the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day.The awards will be held at the London Astoria on the 29th and 30th November, and were to be filmed by Double Jab Productions.However, a spokesman for the production company has confirmed that an investor has pulled out meaning that TV coverage of the event will not go ahead as planned.
Big Brother cleared over homophobic language 6
1:15 PM — A report by broadcasting watchdog Ofcom has cleared Channel 4 over the repeated use of the word 'poof' by a contestant on reality TV show Big Brother. There is no indication that housemate Laura Williams intended to be homophobic when using the word, said Ofcom, who ruled the show did not breach any guidelines when it showed contestants using offensive language.Channel 4 was accused of double standards after it treated gay slurs less seriously than racist terminology on Big Brother.

12:56 PM — A leading Brighton lesbian and gay nightclub unexpectedly won permission for a smoking terrace last night after intervention from a Green councillor on the council's planning committee.Green councillor Amy Kennedy argued for the safety of LGBT smokers who, since the smoking ban, have had to light up on the pavement.Gay smokers have been the target of homophobic abuse from passers-by in cars and on foot and have had objects hurled at them as they smoked outside the club.

10:26 AM — Retired professional basketball player John Amaechi is the star of a 20-second public service announcement (PSA) released today in the US by the Gay Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to mark the beginning of the 2007-08 professional basketball season.The PSA is the fifth installment of GLAAD's new public education campaign that encourages viewers to "Be an Ally a Friend."The British-born athlete made history in February when he became the first former NBA player to come out publicly.
