Gay websites see traffic surge during Pride
10:30 AM — Leave it to Pride Month to bolster gay and lesbian awareness around the world - or at least on the World Wide Web.According to the monthly analysis of online activity released by comScore Media Metrix, traffic increased to gay and lesbian websites in June as well as sites in many other categories, including gaming sites, entertainment news sites and hotel/resort sites.Traffic to US-based gay and lesbian sites jumped 23% to nearly 3 million visitors.

BBC documentary highlights homophobia worldwide
4:33 PM — This month the BBC World Service broadcast a documentary about homophobia in Jamaica and what it is like to come out in such an intolerant country.In the first of two programmes in a new series entitled Coming Out, Clare English explored why some societies are more tolerant than others.The first programme examined the struggle for acceptance in Jamaica and speaks to LGBT people about coming out on the island.
Barcelona walk helps fight against homophobic bullies
12:35 PM — Stonewall supporters have raised more than £50,000 on the second Equality Walk in Barcelona.The 10km stroll earlier this month took in the sights of the Catalonian capital as part of a weekend of fun.It raised vital funds for Stonewall's ongoing Education for All campaign to tackle homophobia and homophobic bullying in schools. The walkers stayed at the award winning gay Axel Hotel.

Straight people to protest homophobia at Amsterdam Pride 1
4:31 PM — Amsterdam's Pride is one of the biggest in the world. The highlight of the weekend is the famous Canal Parade on Saturday afternoon.Where most parades use trucks, Amsterdam has 100 spectacularly decorated boats.This year, for the first time, a 'hetero' boat will take part, as a protest against the rise in homophobic attacks in the Netherlands in recent months.

3:31 PM — Campaigner Peter Tatchell today called claims that two reggae stars did not sign an agreement to stop performing homophobic music "absurd."Buju Banton and Beenie Man both gained positive press coverage around the world for publicly renouncing homophobia by signing the Reggae Compassion Act.Now Banton's management team has said he did not sign up.

Gay man to write tell-all book about NY Yankees
11:10 AM — In 1998 former New York Yankees baseball team's club house attendant Paul Priore brought a $50m lawsuit against the club and some the members stating that he had been sexually harassed and was fired for being a homosexual.Priore lost his suit when the Yankees showed that he was actually fired for stealing from the locker room, but he is now planning on writing a tell-all book about his homophobic abuse, which allegedly includes a steam room scene between players Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada.

Kent’s only Pride event draws 5,000 revellers
4:05 PM — The sun, absent for much of the summer of 2007, chose to make an appearance at Kent's only Pride event last weekend.The first ever Thanet Pride drew an estimated 5,000 people to the beach at Margate.The event was backed by the Thanet District Council, local businesses and national sponsors, among them Viagra manufacturer Pfizer.

Pride London denies links with gay lifestyle expo 1

Reggae star turns his back on homophobia 1
10:10 AM — Reggae star Buju Banton has become the latest homophobic performer to renounce homophobia and condemn violence against lesbians and gay men.He has signed up to the Reggae Compassionate Act in a deal brokered with top reggae promoters and Stop Murder Music activists.His decision is in marked contrast to his attitude in October 2006, when two of his concerts in the US were cancelled after pressure from gay activists.

Homophobic slur against gay politician enrages GLAAD 2
4:08 PM — The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, a US group that monitors media representation, has protested against a cartoon lampooning former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey.The cartoon refers to the minor scandal surrounding the release of compromising photos of the current Miss New Jersey, Amy Polumbo. There were attempts to blackmail her over the photos.Mr McGreevey shot to international fame in 2004 when he declared at a press conference "I am a gay American."

11:40 AM — A series of programmes to mark the 40th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in England Wales starts on Channel 4 tomorrow.A dramatisation of the trial of Lord Edward Montagu and Peter Wildeblood, entitled A Very British Sex Scandal, is one of the highlights.Montagu and Wildeblood, a Daily Mail journalist, were arrested and tried for attempts to incite others to homosexual acts in 1954.

Christians and humanists welcome anti-gay advert ruling
5:24 PM — Gay Christians are among those who have welcomed today's ruling by the Advertising Standards Authority that an advert by a homophobic Christian group was inaccurate and misleading.The advert claimed that the legislation would "force" a bed and breakfast to supply a room to a transsexual and make schools promote civil partnerships.It also incorrectly asserted that the SORs represented an "act against freedom of conscience."
