2:23 PM — A Massachusetts city will become the first to pay gay public workers more than their straight colleagues because gay workers are subject to more federal tax. The city of Cambridge has been looking for a solution to the issue of unfair federal taxes for six months and now plans to reimburse affected workers.

3:07 PM — A US pilot has apologised after a mid-flight homophobic rant was accidentally broadcast to air traffic control. James Fritzen Taylor, who works for Southwest Airlines, was flying between Austin and San Diego in March when it is believed a button for the cockpit microphone was hit by mistake.

3:14 PM — A pilot for Southwest Airlines was briefly suspended, then reinstated, over an anti-gay rant accidentally broadcast to air traffic control. He was heard complaining about "f**king homosexuals" and calling other staff members old, overweight and ugly.

Hotel workers win compensation over anti-gay bullying 17
3:46 PM — Two hotel workers who were mocked and called gay by their boss have won their claims for discrimination. Head chef Martin Owen and manager Andrew Roberts-Evans successfully claimed sex discrimination against Simon Buckley, the director of the Grapes Hotel, in Maentwrog, Snowdonia.

New York Starbucks staff accused of mistreating gay employee 36
2:46 PM — Starbucks says it is investigating claims that an employee was mistreated by co-workers because he is gay. A customer at the coffee giant's Centereach, Long Island, store claims she saw three female staff berating the man for 15-20 minutes in a "brazen" display of homophobia.

Gay LAPD sergeant wins $1m in discrimination case 23
3:24 PM — An openly gay Los Angeles Police Department sergeant has been awarded $1.16 million (£700,000) after winning his case for discrimination. Ronald Crump, 39, has worked for the LAPD for 16 years. He claimed he was harassed after he claimed about a supervisor's treatment of him because he is gay.

Irish trans woman wins £30,000 for discrimination 13
5:50 PM — An Irish trans woman has been awarded 35,000 euros (£30,000) after an equality tribunal ruled she was discriminated against on the grounds of gender and disability. Louise Hannon claims that her employer, First Direct Logistics Limited, discriminated against her after she revealed she was transitioning.

2:38 PM — A female manager has won £12,300 in damages after she was groped and harassed by a gay stable-boy. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, groped Louise Smith, pretended to have sex with her and exposed himself in front of her, an employment tribunal heard.

BBC editor sacked for ‘gay harassment’ of colleague
2:02 PM — A former BBC picture editor is suing the corporation after he was sacked for sexually harassing a male colleague. Jonathan Steer, who worked on News At Ten and Newsnight, began to bombard the colleague, referred to as Andrew, with emails and late-night phone calls, a London employment tribunal heard.

10:41 AM — The president of fashion label Marc Jacobs is being sued by its former chief operating officer. Patrice Lataillade claims that company president Robert Duffy made staff watch gay porn, ordered an employee to pole-dance for him and treated the firm as his own private bank account.

Homophobia widespread in Northern Ireland workplaces 61
5:36 PM — Homophobia is endemic in Northern Ireland workplaces, a report from a gay rights organisation says. According to the Rainbow Project, more than a quarter of lesbian, gay and bisexual people have complained about homophobia at work but 70 per cent of these were not happy with how the issue was dealt with.

10:28 AM — A US war veteran has been sacked for using the word 'faggot' while standing up for the rights of lesbian and gay soldiers. Freddy Schmitt, 82, from New York, had worked for American Airlines for 54 years but was fired after he used the word in a training session.
