4:33 PM — Annise Parker, a lesbian woman, has emerged as the frontrunner in Houston's mayoral race. Houston, in Texas, is the fourth largest city in America and would be the largest to have an openly gay or lesbian mayor if Parker is successful.

4:49 PM — The States of Jersey have agreed to legalise civil partnerships for gay couples. Today's vote passed with an overwhelming majority, with 48 of the 53 members in favour.

5:03 PM — A Washington DC councilman has introduced a bill that will legalise gay marriage in the district. Nine of the 13 council members are listed as co-sponsors and DC mayor Adrian Fenty has said he will sign it.
