    4:06 PM — Lawmakers in Nigeria hope to pass a bill which strengthens laws against homosexuality. The legislation seeks to criminalise same-sex marriage. Its sponsor, Senator Domingo Obende, claimed that gay marriage is "spreading" and must be stopped.

    2:52 PM — An 18-year-old has been jailed for murdering a 67-year-old gay Lincolnshire man. Aiden Jackson was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 12 years by a judge at Lincoln crown court for killing David Cowley in November last year.

    10:36 AM — A gay couple were subjected to a torrent of offensive anti-gay abuse on a London Overground train earlier this month. The incident happened just before 6pm on the 17:38 Hampstead Heath to Stratford service on Saturday October 1st.

    5:03 PM — Police are appealing for witnesses after a gay couple's Oxfordshire home was targeted by youths with an air gun. The couple, aged 45 and 39, were at their home in Chestnut Close at around 9pm last Wednesday when they heard a bang at the back of their home.

    10:38 AM — Three men in Northern Cyprus have been arrested for sexual "acts against nature". The men were arrested in a private home in north Nicosia last Thursday and have already spent five days in custody.

    11:11 AM — A gay man has been jailed for breaking another gay man's jaw in two places in a homophobic attack. Maidstone crown court heard that Robert Jackson's attack was motivated by homophobia, despite being gay himself.

    4:43 PM — North Wales police are to display rainbow flag stickers in stations to encourage gay people to report homophobic crime. Diversity leaders at the force believe the stickers will reassure gay people that they will be treated sensitively and respectfully.

  • Government consults on removing ‘insulting’ speech from public order laws 217

    The government is considering changing the Public Order Act

    11:52 AM — The Home Office is looking at the possibility of removing the offence of causing "insult' from the Public Order Act. The law has been used to arrest Christian street preachers who deliver anti-gay sermons, such as Cumbrian preacher Dale McAlpine.

    3:44 PM — Police in Johannesburg, South Africa, say there is no evidence a serial killer is targeting gay men. According to the Star newspaper, there have been six killings of gay men over the last 18 months which bear similarities.

    2:08 PM — Four men have been found guilty of murdering a lesbian in Cape Town, South Africa. Zoliswa Nkonyana, 19, was stoned and stabbed to death after a night out in Khayelitsha on February 4th 2006.

    10:49 AM — A Manchester man has been jailed for six and a half months for setting his dog on a woman in a homophobic attack. Jason Boswell, of Dean Road, Gorton, set his Japanese Akita on Karen Wilson in an unprovoked attack while she and another woman were cycling on the Fallowfield Loop last July.

    4:40 PM — Gay rights campaigners in South Africa say a fifth gay murder in Johannesburg suggests there may be a homophobic killer at large. In the last year, there have been four cases in which gay men were found dead in similar circumstances - bound and strangled in their homes with no sign of a break-in.

    4:51 PM — Barrie and Tony Drewitt-Barlow, the UK's first gay surrogate dads, have been accused of faking the results of clinical trials. The couple, who are parents to five children, including two sets of twins, deny five counts of contravening the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations.
