1:21 PM — Atheist author and journalist Christopher Hitchens died last night, aged 62, at a hospital in Texas after suffering from pneumonia brought on by oesophageal cancer. In 2009, Hitchens, a vocal supporter of gay rights, revealed in his memoirs he had gay liaisons at Oxford with men who later became Tory politicians.

At an event tonight, held at London’s City Hall, details for the festival which will include live music, entertainment, LGBT art, sports and tournaments will be revealed.

12:15 PM — An inquest into the death of Roger Crouch, the anti-gay bullying campaigner who was honoured for his work protecting teenagers from homophobic bullying after his son committed suicide last year, has heard he was found hanged.

Petition launched to pardon gay codebreaker Alan Turing 98
1:28 PM — A petition has been launched asking the government to issue a formal pardon to the gay mathematician Alan Turing. Turing, who worked at Bletchley Park during the World War Two, was prosecuted for his sexual orientation in 1952 and obliged to undergo chemical castration. He committed suicide two years later, aged 41.

2:23 PM — Neil Patrick Harris has apologised publicly for using the term "tranny" on television. The gay actor, 38, who currently appears on the popular US sitcom How I Met Your Mother, had been inhaling a gas which lowers voices.
