Five ‘gay’ US teens kill themselves in just three weeks 23
1:06 AM — Five US teenagers believed to have been gay have taken their own lives in the past three weeks, it has emerged. The most recent, Raymond Chase, was a 19-year-old studying at Johnson and Wales University, Rhode Island. He reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his dormitory.

‘Transphobic’ attack at trans conference in Sweden 19
5:14 PM — Two trans women were attacked at a transgender conference in Sweden last night. The women, who were attending the third European Transgender Council in Malmo, received minor injuries in what police are treating as a transphobic assault.

British army claims having openly gay soldiers has ‘increased productivity’ 9
11:43 PM — Following the defeat of a vote in the US Senate to debate ending the US army's Don't ask, Don't tell' policy, the British army claims that allowing gay and lesbians to openly served has improved the armed forces.
Gay campaigner Peter Tatchell honoured with blue plaque 38
2:12 PM — Gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell was honoured with a blue plaque outside his home in south London today. A large crowd gathered to watch the unveiling of the plaque in Southwark and actor Sir Ian McKellen spoke at the ceremony.

Stonewall chief executive won’t be ‘jumped into’ gay marriage position 109
9:20 PM — Stonewall chief executive Ben Summerskill defended his group's lack of a position on marriage equality this evening at a fringe event at Labour's party conference. Mr Summerskill mounted a robust defence of Stonewall, although he was attacked by audience members who questioned why the charity had not begun considering marriage equality sooner.

7:14 PM — The actor and Stonewall co-founder, Sir Ian McKellen is to unveil a blue plaque placed outside the flat where the gay and human rights activist Peter Tatchell has based his campaigns, particularly for Outrage!, the LGBT rights group he founded.

3:48 PM — Human rights organisation, Amnesty International today warned of a risk of right wing groups threatening the safety of next week's pride march in Belgrade.
Former neo-Nazi to address US gay students 11
11:34 AM — A former US neo-Nazi activist is to speak at an event hosted by the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer) committee of the State University of New York College (SUNY) at Cortland. Tom "T.J." Leyden spent 15 years as a white supremacist and recruiter, campaigning against blacks, Latinos, Jews and gays before turning his back on the movement.

Update: Stonewall boss Ben Summerskill argued that Lib Dem equal marriage plan could cost up to £5bn 128
11:53 PM — 24 hours ago, PinkNews.co.uk carried a report from about a fringe meeting at the Liberal Democrats party conference where Stonewall chief executive was reported to have said he was opposed to gay marriage equality because it could cost £5bn. This was based on reports coming from a number of blogs and people who have previously contributed to PinkNews.co.uk as we were not there in person. The reportage was subsequently supported by a number of other people in attendance. Stonewall's chief executive Ben Summerskill has complained about what he claims are a number of inaccuracies in the content of that report. As such we are partially suspending the content from this report while we investigate these claims.

Brighton Pride email suggests fire service concerns 4
8:47 PM — Exclusive: East Sussex Fire Service is thought to have concerns that this year's Brighton Pride festival was "poorly managed". An emailed statement from Pride this afternoon announcing the immediate resignation of chair Robert Clothier contained an forwarded email which appeared to have been sent by accident.

5:46 PM — The acting chair of Brighton Pride has resigned with immediate effect. Robert Clothier, who stood in for former chair Yvonne Barker when she resigned last November, announced he was standing down today.

Gay hand-holding campaign celebrates first anniversary 3
1:23 PM — A campaign to encourage LGBT people to hold hands in public will celebrate its first anniversary this month. Sshh! Saturdays was launched a year ago by founder David Watkins, who encourages LGBT couples and friends to email in pictures of them holding hands in public.

2:49 PM — A new LGBT club in London will be a night out with a difference, organisers say. QueerlyOut, aimed at 18-30-year-olds, launches on October 7th and promises drinks priced from 99p as well as a range of support services such as sexual health and housing advice.
