New medical rules for US transgender inmates
11:27 AM — The US Bureau of Prisons has adopted new rules for the care of transgender inmates. Previously, prisoners would be permitted to continue with treatments such as hormone therapy if they began them before being incarcerated. However, they would not be permitted to start such treatments inside.

5:10 PM — Serbia's gay Pride march has been banned by police. Authorities fear a repeat of the violence that marred last year's event and injured almost 100 police officers.
Right-wing Canadian group accused of transphobia for ‘confusion’ ad 38
11:19 AM — A right-wing Canadian group claims that school equality policies are "corrupting children". The Institute for Canadian Values ran an ad in the National Post this week urging adults to stop "confusing children" by teaching them about gay and transgender people.

European Parliament calls for end of classifying transgender people as mentally ill 121
2:05 PM — The European Parliament has passed a resolution calling for the World Health Organisation to stop classifying transgender people as mentally ill. 'Gender identity disorder' is currently classified as a ‘mental and behavioural disorder’ in the WHO’s International Classification of Diseases.

Judge upholds 21-year sentence for trans woman’s killer 14
11:15 AM — A man convicted for the second time of killing a transgender woman has had his original sentence upheld. Leon Fyle, 23, will serve 21 years for killing 29-year-old Destiny Lauren at her flat in Kentish Town, London, in 2009.

Man found guilty in retrial over transgender woman’s murder 10
12:49 PM — A London man has been found guilty for a second time of murdering a transgender woman. Leon Fyle, of Catford, was convicted of the murder of Destiny Lauren last September and sentenced to 21 years in prison but the Court of Appeal ruled his original conviction was “unsafe".
East London celebrates Pride after a rocky year 26

Dancer sacked from Chinese talent show because she’s transgender 18
12:13 PM — A famous Chinese dancer says she was dropped as a judge on a TV talent show because she is transgender. Jin Xing, 44, had sex reassignment surgery in 1996. She was booked to appear for eight weeks on Feitong Fanxiang, a show for professional singers.

US gay rights campaigner Arthur Evans dies 6
2:06 PM — Arthur Evans, the American gay rights campaigner, has died at the age of 68. He was found dead of a heart attack at his home in San Francisco on Sunday, having being diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm last year.

3:03 PM — A Channel 4 documentary to be screened this autumn follows seven transgender men and women. The programme, Girls Will Be Boys and Boys Will Be Girls, will show the group at different stages of the transition process.

5:32 PM — The mother of a ten-year-old transgender girl in Worcester has told how adults, rather than children, taunt and harass her daughter. The 36-year-old woman, who has not been named to protect her daughter's identity, said that while the girl's classmates had largely accepted her, other parents and adults had not.
David Cameron backs new international gay rights charity 35
11:18 AM — A new UK-based charity will be launched to support LGBT people suffering persecution around the world. The project has been backed by political leaders and prime minister David Cameron, who said Britain should be a "global beacon for reform" on the issue of LGBT rights.

12:05 PM — The governor of Maryland, Martin O’Malley as well as the lieutenant governor, Anthony Brown, have warned that it will be a long fight to win full gay marriage rights with the same legal status as straight married couples but that it is achievable.
‘God Hates Fags’ church to picket Ground Zero and Nevada National Guard funerals 44
10:26 AM — The anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church, that pickets military funerals with signs saying 'God Hates Fags' will picket the funerals of three Nevada National Guard soldiers as well as protesting at the site of Ground Zero on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.
