2:21 PM — Nikolai Alekseev, the face of gay rights campaigning in Russia, has retired. In an email sent to supporters last week, the 34-year-old said he would no longer head Moscow Pride and GayRussia.ru but gave little reason for his decision.

2:43 PM — Anna Grodzka, Poland's first transgender MP, says she will seek equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people. The 57-year-old, who was elected an MP for Krakow last week, said she would make the Catholic country more accepting.

‘Inspirational’ Ugandan lesbian campaigner wins human rights award 8
1:54 PM — Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera, the Ugandan gay rights campaigner, has been honoured with a prestigious human rights award. The activist, who has risked death to speak up for other LGBT people, received the Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders in Geneva on Wednesday.

Gay rights campaigner Frank Kameny dies aged 86 25
10:14 AM — Frank Kameny, the US gay rights campaigner, has died aged 86. The activist, who was sacked from his government job as an astronomer in 1957 for being gay, was one of the leading lights of the US gay rights movement.

Transgender woman set to become Polish MP 16
1:29 PM — A transgender woman is expected to become the first trans person in Poland to be elected as an MP. Anna Grodzka, 57, of Krakow, believes she will be the world's only sitting transgender MP if elected for the Palikot Movement party.

Australian transgender men win legal recognition 4
9:50 AM — Two transgender men in Australia have won the right to be legally recognised as men without undergoing sex reassignment surgery. The pair, who have not been named, have had their breasts removed and some hormone therapy, although they still have some female sexual organs.

New medical rules for US transgender inmates
11:27 AM — The US Bureau of Prisons has adopted new rules for the care of transgender inmates. Previously, prisoners would be permitted to continue with treatments such as hormone therapy if they began them before being incarcerated. However, they would not be permitted to start such treatments inside.

5:10 PM — Serbia's gay Pride march has been banned by police. Authorities fear a repeat of the violence that marred last year's event and injured almost 100 police officers.
Right-wing Canadian group accused of transphobia for ‘confusion’ ad 38
11:19 AM — A right-wing Canadian group claims that school equality policies are "corrupting children". The Institute for Canadian Values ran an ad in the National Post this week urging adults to stop "confusing children" by teaching them about gay and transgender people.

European Parliament calls for end of classifying transgender people as mentally ill 121
2:05 PM — The European Parliament has passed a resolution calling for the World Health Organisation to stop classifying transgender people as mentally ill. 'Gender identity disorder' is currently classified as a ‘mental and behavioural disorder’ in the WHO’s International Classification of Diseases.

Judge upholds 21-year sentence for trans woman’s killer 14
11:15 AM — A man convicted for the second time of killing a transgender woman has had his original sentence upheld. Leon Fyle, 23, will serve 21 years for killing 29-year-old Destiny Lauren at her flat in Kentish Town, London, in 2009.

Man found guilty in retrial over transgender woman’s murder 10
12:49 PM — A London man has been found guilty for a second time of murdering a transgender woman. Leon Fyle, of Catford, was convicted of the murder of Destiny Lauren last September and sentenced to 21 years in prison but the Court of Appeal ruled his original conviction was “unsafe".
