London gay men three times more likely to use drugs
New figures indicating that gay men are more than three times more likely to use drugs than other Londoners has prompted a gay health charity to launch a new campaign.37% of gay and bisexual men in London took drugs in the last year, compared to 11% of the general population.The new campaign by Gay Men Fighting AIDS (GMFA) highlights the increased risks that gay men may take when using alcohol or drugs and provides tips on planning for safer sex.

New community forum for LGB Leicestershire
Leicester's Lesbian Gay and Bisexual Centre has set up a new forum to tackle homophobia and increase the involvement of lesbian, gay and bisexual people in their local community.The Community Forum will enable LGBT people who live or work in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland to give their opinions on topics which affect them.The next Forum meeting will be held on Thursday 22nd November.

Local paper censured over “lesbian lover” headline
The Press Complaints Commission has upheld a complaint that a newspaper printed an inaccurate headline about a lesbian woman."Man attacked girlfriend's lesbian lover," which appeared in the January 26th edition of the Isle of Wight County Press, was judged to breach the PCC Code of Practice.Ms Leila Mahmoud, of Ryde, had been the subject of an assault by her friend's boyfriend, who had pleaded guilty at his trial.

Symbols of Nazi gay hate up for auction
Two pink triangles, the symbols of Hitler's hatred towards homosexuals, are up for auction in Shropshire this week.They are expected to fetch hundreds of pounds when they go under the hammer at the Mullock's Auctioneers at Ludlow Racecourse on Thursday.Also being sold at the auction are other rare items including a description of a Spanish flu pandemic that killed millions and an apologetic letter from composer Edward Elgar.

Ugandan LGBT form IDAHO chapter
Gay rights activists in Uganda have come together to create a Chapter of the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) and take part in a landmark debate organised by Queer Youth Uganda.The climate for LGBT people in the country is extremely hostile, and attacks from the media, religious groups and the government are commonplace.Despite this, more than 100 activists and supporters gathered in the capital Kampala to debate the way forward for gay rights in Uganda.

RAF among new entries in Stonewall recruitment guide
Lesbian and gay graduates and job-seekers will have a new resource to help them find their dream career with the launch today of Starting Out, Stonewall's recruitment guide.This is the third edition of the guide, and this year there are new entries from Channel 4, Allen Overy, Deloitte Touche, the RAF, Westminster City Council and the Charity Commission.Starting Out is aimed at the estimated 150,000 gay and lesbian students in Britain, and provides vital information on employers across the country who support and welcome gay staff.

LGBT conference concludes despite bans and protests
11th annual ILGA-Europe conference came to a close yesterday.It was held in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius and attended by almost 200 delegates from all over Europe.Fears that anti-gay activists had attempted to sabotage the conference were unfounded - Lithuanian and international media had reported on smoke bombs set off in a gay nightclub adjacent to the conference venue.

Greek gay community protest Iran deportation
A gay rights group in Greece has asked for help to stop the deportation of a 40-year-old Iranian man.GHC-EOK say that the man, known as Alex, was arrested, beaten and tortured in his home country because he is gay.Two separate applications to remain in Greece have been rejected and his case is due to be discussed before the country's Supreme Council.

Vietnamese high school pupils accepting of homosexuality
A survey of school children in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's capital, has revealed that a quarter of them believe at least 10% of their class mates are gay.HCMC University of Pedagogy conducted the poll of 300 pupils at three junior high and high schools and discovered that 80% of pupils said "no" when asked "is homosexuality bad?"Experts believe that while the actual number of gay pupils is difficult to determine, open homosexuality in schools appears to be on the rise, despite still carrying social stigma amongst the adult population.

US airline becomes first to advertise on gay TV network
American Airlines began airing its first TV spots on US gay television network LOGO this week.Both spots urge viewers to visit the welcome page for American Airlines' LGBT website and will be shown in rotation for 13 weeks.American Airlines is the first airline to advertise nationally on the network.

Gay club attacked in Lithuania
Smoke bombs were set off in a nightclub in Vilnius last night as members of the International Gay and Lesbian Association partied inside.The Lithuanian capital is hosting ILGA Europe's annual conference, despite a ban on a public Rainbow Flag display by the city's mayor.Last night's incident happened at Soho nightclub, which is next to the conference venue.

Ugandan activist joins human rights commission
A leading advocate for LGBT rights in Africa has joined the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC).Victor Juliet Mukasa is well-known internationally for her activism in her home country of Uganda in the face of state opression.She is to become IGLHRC's new Research and Policy Associate for the Horn, East, and Central Africa.

Study finds US gay men earn 23% less than straight men
Male co-habiting same-sex couples earn 23% less than married men and 9% less than men who co-habit with a woman, new research released today reveals.Lesbians are not discriminated against when compared with heterosexual women, the US study found.The report's authors conclude that while negative attitudes toward lesbians could affect them, lesbians may benefit from the perception that they are more career-focused and less likely to leave the labour market.
