MPs move to strike down religious civil partnership rules 100
10:37 AM — A small group of MPs is echoing calls made in the House of Lords that new regulations for civil partnerships may force places of worship to marry gay couples alongside straight ones. Edward Leigh, a Catholic Conservative backbencher said the House of Commons was not able to debate the regulations properly.

9:53 AM — The Church of Scotland has made its official response to the Scottish government's consultation, standing in opposition to equal marriage rights for gay couples, saying it has "a responsibility to shape public opinion in accordance with what it understands to be the will of God."

Study finds 30% of UK adults “need more information about HIV” 19
2:25 PM — Almost a third of UK adults have said they need more information about HIV, according to a new survey. 34% of men and 26% of women believe they do not know enough about the virus in answers to questions posed online by Durex.

2:10 PM — A survey by the British Red Cross has found one in three young people in Britain would be scared to tell their parents if they were HIV positive. While 20% of respondents also said their parents would not want them to tell anyone else if they were living with HIV, 69% said they believed their parents would love them either way.

4:34 PM — A 15-year-old Ohio student has been sentenced to a month and half in a juvenile detention centre after he was videotaped attacking a gay classmate. Levi Sever was also ordered to undergo counselling.

2:51 PM — The President of the Italian Footballers' Association Damiano Tommasi has suggested gay players keep their sexuality quiet, because the sport is "different to every other profession".

2:00 PM — A senior official in the Russian government has said he is "perplexed" by the US statement condemning a proposed law which could severely hinder freedom of expression for LGBT people in St Petersburg. Konstantin Dolgov, the Russian Foreign Ministry's Commissioner for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, said the US State Department's comments were "incorrect".

11:50 AM — Barry McCluskey, a former nurse, has been jailed for six years after posing as a gay or bisexual teenage girl to abuse 49 young people online over the course of three years.

Nigerian Senate votes to punish gay marriage with 14 years in prison 150
9:46 AM — The Nigerian Senate has voted through a bill criminalising gay marriage, with prison sentences of up to 14 years for those couples who try to enter into an unofficial union and ten years for witnesses. The law already punishes acts of homosexuality with 14 years’ imprisonment or, in regions under Shari’a law, with a sentence of death by stoning.
