1 April 2009Policeman jailed over underage gay sex 22 A former PC who was a lesbian and gay liasion officer has been jailed for two and a half years for sexual activity with a 15-year-old boy. Mark Brigham, 38, formerly of the Metropolitan Police, met the 15-year-old at a party in August. The teenager's family had asked Brigham to give him advice as he had just come out. -

31 March 2009Ugandan gay rights event ‘sparsely attended’ 1 Fewer than 20 openly LGBT Ugandans attended a public protest in Kampala calling for equal rights. Speaking at the protest in the capital of the east African country, lesbian activist Jacqueline Masha said "We are law-abiding citizens. We deserve equal rights and protection under the law and constitution." -
30 March 2009Zurich elects lesbian mayor + Zurich has elected its first female and first openly lesbian mayor, Corine Mauch. A member of the centre-left Social Democrats, Mauch has been elected with a lead of 11,000 votes over her opposition following the surprise resignation of previous incumbent Elmar Ledergerber late last year. -
