Murder accused ‘was owed £2,000 by victim’ + A man accused of murdering his ex-boyfriend by setting light to him was allegedly owed £2,000 by him, a court has heard. Nadim Kurrimbukus, 25, allegedly told childhood friend Yusuf Dulloo that his ex-boyfriend, Charlie Davies, owed him money and he needed help to get it back.

HIV stigma “fuels homophobia and discrimination” + A new report released by Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC) last week shows that some perceptions of HIV/AIDS have not changed in the past 20 years. In 2006, 50 per cent of Americans surveyed believed that HIV/AIDS contributes homophobia and discrimination, according to the report authored by Ethel Klein.

Coronation Street to feature first lesbian character? 5 ITV soap Coronation Street is to feature its first lesbian character, according to reports. Sixteen-year-old Sophie Webster, played by Brooke Vincent, will begin a same-sex relationship with a friend, a source told a Sunday newspaper.

He claimed Dulloo killed Mr Davies because of homophobia motivated by religious beliefs.

Sweden approves same-sex marriage 17 Six of the seven parties in Swedish parliament have backed a proposal to introduce a gender-neutral marriage law. The proposal passed today with a 261 to 22 vote and 16 abstentions.

Policeman jailed over underage gay sex 22 A former PC who was a lesbian and gay liasion officer has been jailed for two and a half years for sexual activity with a 15-year-old boy. Mark Brigham, 38, formerly of the Metropolitan Police, met the 15-year-old at a party in August. The teenager's family had asked Brigham to give him advice as he had just come out.

ITV comedy Moving Wallpaper investigated for ‘transphobic’ comments 7 Ofcom has received more than 50 complaints about an episode of ITV comedy Moving Wallpaper over alleged transphobia. The complaints focus on an episode aired on 20th March, in which trans character Georgina was mocked by other characters.

Ugandan gay rights event ‘sparsely attended’ 1 Fewer than 20 openly LGBT Ugandans attended a public protest in Kampala calling for equal rights. Speaking at the protest in the capital of the east African country, lesbian activist Jacqueline Masha said "We are law-abiding citizens. We deserve equal rights and protection under the law and constitution."

Zurich elects lesbian mayor + Zurich has elected its first female and first openly lesbian mayor, Corine Mauch. A member of the centre-left Social Democrats, Mauch has been elected with a lead of 11,000 votes over her opposition following the surprise resignation of previous incumbent Elmar Ledergerber late last year.

Tyra scores at the 20th GLAAD Media Awards 2 The New York leg of the 20th annual GLAAD Media Awards saw Tyra Banks pick up one of the top honours of the night. Presented the Excellence in Media Award by gay singer-songwriter Clay Aiken, Tyra received official recognition of her efforts to advance the gay community.
