14 August 2007Scientists study gay brothers in search for cause of homosexuality 1 Scientists investigating a genetic basis for homosexuality will be recruiting more pairs of gay brothers in Chicago this weekend.The Molecular Genetic Study of Sexual Orientation is the most extensive study of its kind.It was embarked upon by a team of researchers from Chicago universities four years ago. Researchers hope that by gathering DNA samples from 1,000 sets of gay brothers they will be able to find genetic linkages smaller studies failed to detect. -
10 August 2007The night Peter Tatchell partied with the Cheeky Girls 1 Last month's launch party for Bouga Cocktail Lounge in London's Crouch End was a glittering celebrity charity bash for a rather surprising cause - grass-roots activist Peter Tatchell's Human Rights Fund (PTHRF).Transylvanian pop duo, The Cheeky Girls, Big Brother loudmouth Shabnam, glamour model Cassie Sumner and Keith Levene, a founding member of legendary punk rock band The Clash, were among some 200 guests who partied at the Moroccan restaurant in aid of the charity on July 23rd. -

7 August 2007Gay flirting and homophobic abuse upset fire fighters 1 Four firefighters have filed sexual harassment charges against the San Diego fire department after they were taunted while driving a fire engine in a gay Pride parade last month.The men claim their battalion chief ordered them to ride in the July 21st parade through San Diego's Hillcrest neighbourhood, according to their attorney, Stephen Stirling.The fire fighters said they had objected to driving a city firetruck in the parade while on duty, but did so to avoid disciplinary action. -
7 August 2007Iranian paper shut down for interviewing lesbian 1 A leading Iranian newspaper has been shut down for publishing an interview with a woman accused of being a "counter-revolutionary" homosexual.The ban on Shargh, the favourite newspaper of Iranian liberals, comes amid growing pressure on the press in Iran and follows the closure of fellow moderate daily Ham Mihan last month.It is the second time in less than a year that Shargh has been shut down by Iranian officials. -
7 August 2007LGBT communities party across Europe 1 A record number of gay rights supporters across Europe took part in Pride festivities this weekend.Belfast's streets were alive with the sights and sounds of the 17th annual Gay Pride parade on Saturday.Shoppers in the city were treated to a procession of colourful floats and flamboyant supporters as Belfast's LGBT communities celebrated the finale of a week of gay events. -
7 August 2007Prime Minister visits Pride in Stockholm + Ten of thousands of people marched in the Stockholm Pride parade on Saturday as part of Scandinavia's largest gay event.Organisers estimate that 50,000 people paraded, while a record half a million people watched the parade's progress through the Swedish capital.Politicians from most of Sweden's political parties also visited Stockholm Pride. -
1 August 2007Gay illegal immigrant can stay in Italy + Italy's Supreme Court has refused to overrule a judge's decision to revoke the deportation order of an illegal Senegalese migrant on the grounds of his sexual orientation.Italy's highest criminal court stated that "homosexuality is a condition of he human being deserving legal protection."The court announced that gay people who seek refuge from persecution in Italy would not be sent back to their countries of origin. -
31 July 2007Trans prisoner must be given hormone treatment, court rules + A prison inmate who performed a self-castration with a razor blade after being refused treatment for gender identity disorder should have female hormone therapy paid for by the state, a federal judge has said.Jenniffer Spencer, born Randall Gammett, sued the Department of Corrections in the US state of Idaho for violation of her constitutional rights and for the punishment she was subjected to when doctors failed to diagnose gender identity disorder and treat her with female hormones. -
31 July 2007Gay ignorance about Hep B worries charity + 62% of gay men don't think Hepatitis B is serious, according to a recent sample survey conducted in Soho.The poll was conducted by the Hep B vaccination programme Sorted.It found that most gay men don't worry about the virus, despite the fact that it can cause life-long liver disease and is 100 times more infectious than HIV. The potentially fatal disease is preventable by a simple vaccination. -

1 July 2007Irish president warns of link between anti-gay bullying and suicide 2 Irish President Mary McAleese today called for a national change in attitudes to end the bullying of gay people in Ireland.Addressing world experts at the International Association of Suicide Prevention Conference in Killarney, the President said the link between sexual identity and suicide had to be addressed.She also warned gay people encounter a hurtful undercurrent of bias and hostility. -

1 July 2007Senator Craig may resign over toilet scandal, say party officials 4 Senior Republican Senator, Larry Craig, is considering resigning, party officials said Friday, the Associated Press has reported.The rumours of Craig's resignation came after days of public and private pressure stemming from his arrest in June in a police undercover operation at an airport men's room.
