7 November 2007Lesbian couple push for full marriage rights in Ireland + A lesbian couple from the Republic of Ireland who married in Canada yesterday renewed calls to have the same legal rights as those in heterosexual marriages.Dr Katherine Zappone and Dr Ann Louise Gilligan took part in the first expert meeting on the recognition of married same-sex couples at the European Parliament in Brussels.They joined couples from across Europe who are seeking recognition of their marriage. -
6 November 2007Homophobic Prime Minister of Poland leaves office + Jaroslaw Kaczynski has handed in the resignation of his cabinet, officially bringing an end to the Law and Justice-led government who had been in power in Poland since autumn 2005.Prime Minister Mr Kaczynski handed his resignation documents to his twin brother President Lech Kaczynski, during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw yesterday.His resignation follows his party's defeat in elections held last month. -
6 November 2007CBS to make news programme for US gay network + American LGBT cable channel Logo is planning to screen a half-hour weekly news programme by CBS News."CBS News on Logo" will premiere next Monday evening. The news broadcast stems from a two-year partnership between the MTV Networks channel and CBS News.CBS News had been producing three-minute bulletins that aired daily on Logo. -
6 November 2007Rising gay populations in America’s “red states” + An American sexual orientation think-tank has released a report that reveals a "gay demographic explosion" in some of America's most conservative regions.The Williams Institute for Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy at UCLA released the report yesterday.The report used data from the 1990 and 2000 censuses and the US Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS) from 2002 to 2006. -
6 November 2007British man arrested at Malaysian orgy 2 Police in Malaysia, where sodomy is a crime, have raided a gay sex party and arrested 37 men, including a Briton.According to AP, police chief Azam Abdul Hamid said officers acting on a public tip-off had raided a fitness centre in northern Penang island on Sunday while a sex party was in progress. The men arrested were aged between 20 and 45.Apart from the Briton and a Chinese national, all the men were ethnic Chinese Malaysians, including three who worked at the centre. -
6 November 2007TV station secretly filming gay kisses + American TV network ABC has been found to be secretly taping gays kissing in public.According to MyFox Birmingham, ABC news is conducting a social experiment which aims to gauge the reactions of the public to displays of affection between members of the same sex.An actor inside an RV parked in Birmingham, Alabama confirmed a witness account of ABC's week-long project. -

31 October 2007New community forum for LGB Leicestershire + Leicester's Lesbian Gay and Bisexual Centre has set up a new forum to tackle homophobia and increase the involvement of lesbian, gay and bisexual people in their local community.The Community Forum will enable LGBT people who live or work in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland to give their opinions on topics which affect them.The next Forum meeting will be held on Thursday 22nd November. -
31 October 2007HIV may have come to US in 1960s + The HIV virus arrived the United States in 1969 from Haiti, carried most likely by a single infected immigrant who set the stage for a world epidemic, scientists said on Monday.According to Reuters, Michael Worobey, a University of Arizona evolutionary biologist, said the 1969 U.S. entry date is earlier than some experts had believed.The timeline laid out in the study led by Worobey indicates that HIV infections were occurring in the United States for roughly 12 years before AIDS was first recognised. -

23 October 2007London best for gay travellers + London has been named as the best international holiday destination by American gay and lesbian travellers.In an online survey of more than 7,500 lesbian and gay travellers in the USA, more than 8% had visited London in the past 12 months, placing the city ahead of Paris and Rome - the only other European destinations to make the top 10.Tom Wright, chief executive of VisitBritain, welcomed the result. -
