5:32 PM — The Nevada Assembly has voted 28-14 to override Governor Jim Gibbons' veto of a law allowing domestic partnerships for gay and straight unmarried couples.
Sweden appoints lesbian bishop 4
2:11 PM — The Church of Sweden has appointed a lesbian as the Lutheran bishop of Stockholm. Eva Brunne, who is in a registered partnership, is believed to be the world's first lesbian bishop. She won the post by 413 votes against 365 votes and will succeed Bishop Caroline Krook, who is to retire in November.
New Hampshire reaches compromise on gay marriage 1

Lesbian sports presenter Clare Balding suffering from thyroid cancer 11
10:39 AM — Clare Balding, the openly lesbian BBC sports presenter, has revealed she is battling thyroid cancer. She underwent a throat operation in April to remove a cyst but a second operation was necessary to remove her thyroid gland, which was found to be cancerous.

5:34 PM — EastEnders is to screen a storyline involving a Muslim character who has a gay affair. New character Syed Masood, a Muslim property developer who has a girlfriend, is to fall for openly gay Christian Clarke. But the Muslim Public Affairs Committee say that the BBC should have a "normal friendly Muslim character."

5:01 PM — An appointee selected by California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to serve on the state's parole board has been rejected over homophobic comments he had made in 1993, despite apologising for his words.

4:07 PM — Tory leader David Cameron has been voted the worst politician of the year. Cameron, who reportedly plans to prioritise outreach to gay groups, topped the poll of bad politicians in the Gay Times Readers' Awards.
Majority of Rhode Island residents support gay marriage
1:53 PM — A survey of Rhode Island voters has found that 60 per cent support the introduction of a law allowing gay couples to marry. The New England state is now the only one which does not allow gay marriage.

4:45 PM — TransLondon, the largest group in the capital for all trans-identified people, has announced it is boycotting London Pride. The decision comes after trans women were denied access to female toilets at last year's Pride and one was allegedly sexually assaulted.
