11:36 AM — Maine is the latest New England state to take up the issue of same-sex marriage. Approximately 4,000 people packed into the Augusta Civic Centre after the public were invited to a hearing to discuss the legalisation of same-sex marriage.

5:29 PM — Celia Duncan, 42 from Aberdeen has been fined £250 for shouting homophobic abuse at her 16 year old son, Stuart O'Neill.
New York State passes trangendered protection law 3
3:33 PM — The New York State Assembly passed the Gender Expression Non-discrimination Act yesterday. This bill prohibits discrimination based on gender identity and expression in employment, housing, public accommodations, access to credit, and other key areas. It also adds gender identity and expression as protected categories in the state's human rights law.
Conservatives still fuming as Iowa heads towards its first gay marriages 2
2:21 PM — Iowa became the first Midwestern state to allow gay marriage on April 3 but conservatives are still expressing disdain over the decision. Iowa will see a formalisation of this issue on 27 April and from then on, same-sex couples can begin to seek marriage licenses.

5:31 PM — The inquest into the death of a woman who was found hanging in her cell has heard that her lesbian lover had been unfaithful. Lisa Doe, 25, was found hanging in her cell on September 11, 2007.
Man jailed for seven weeks for verbally abusing local councillor’s partner 6
3:47 PM — A man who taunted the partner of a local councillor with homophobic abuse has been jailed for seven weeks. Christoper Small, 30 of Dent Street, Hartlepool, was jailed after pleading guilty to two counts of using threatening and abusive words.
