5:13 PM — Lawyers for the gay Malawian couple found guilty of homosexual sex have asked for the pair to receive non-custodial sentences. Stephen Monjeza, 26, and Tiwonge Chimbalanga, 20, were found guilty of unnatural acts and gross indecency yesterday.

12:08 PM — An Ipswich man who killed a gay hairdresser and claimed the victim touched him has been jailed for 18 years. Rodney Greenland, 47, of Manchester Road, Ipswich, stabbed 36-year-old Simon Amers to death last July.

5:28 PM — New Foreign Office minister for Europe David Lidington has released a message to mark International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. The Conservative MP said the Foreign Office was "committed to promoting British values" abroad, including LGBT rights.
Belarus police break up Slavic Pride 2
5:03 PM — A group of 20 marchers who defied a ban on Slavic Pride was forcefully broken up by Belarus police on Saturday morning. The event was cancelled by Minsk city officials but a small group decided to march anyway.

6:30 PM — Pope Benedict has called gay marriage and abortion "dangerous threats to the common good" during a visit to Portugal. The pontiff is on a four-day visit to the country and gave a Mass today to 500,000 people at Fatima, which is considered the Portuguese Lourdes.
