14 March 2008Religious Russians target cartoon channel + Protestant groups in Moscow are urging for the closure of a cartoon channel they claim promotes homosexuality and religious intolerance.Channel 2x2, which broadcasts Western cartoons such as South Park, has been accused of promoting "homosexual propaganda".It is the second time in a week that the network, owned by Vladimir Potanin's Prof-Media Group, has come under fire for its contents. -
7 March 2008EXCLUSIVE: Blood service defends gay discrimination 18 PinkNews.co.uk has challenged the National Blood Service to explain why it continues to discriminate against any man who has ever had sex with another man.Currently, a man who has ever had oral or anal sex with another man, even with a condom, is barred from donating blood for life because they are deemed to be more at risk of passing on sexually transmitted diseases.A National Blood Service spokesperson said the ban on gay and bisexual men giving blood is "justified." -
7 March 2008O’Loan to lead inquiry into human rights in Britain 1 An independent inquiry into human rights in Britain is to be carried out almost ten years after the original Act was passed, it was announced today.The investigation comes after a poll for the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) showed that the term 'human rights' still prompts mixed reactions from a large population of the British public.Former Northern Ireland Police Ombudsman Dame Nuala O'Loan will be leading the inquiry. -
7 March 2008Jail for lesbian couple who murdered teenager + Two lesbian lovers have been jailed for life after bludgeoning a British girl to death in Australia because they found her "annoying."Jessica Stasinowsky, 21 and Valerie Parashumti, 19, pleaded guilty to murdering 16-year old Stacey Mitchell, whose family had moved to Australia from West Moors, Dorset in 2001.The court was told that the two women became sexually aroused as they beat the teenager with a concrete block and made a mobile phone video of the murder scene. -
7 March 2008India gets first trans TV host + A transgender person is to host a controversial new talk show in India.Ippadikku Rose is anchored by 28-year old Rose from Madras (Chennai).The first episode aired on Thursday and tackled the issue of sexual harassment against women.Later shows plan to deal with other topics that are socially taboo in India such as gay rights, sexual abuse and prostitution.
