Brad Pitt to produce trans drama 1 Ryan Murphy, creator of popular US drama Nip/Tuck, has sold a pilot to the FX network for a series about a man who realises he is a transsexual.In a move which surprised many media observers, Brad Pitt is listed among the executive producers, in what would be his first foray into television.The programme has already faced two drastic changes, however. One was over similarities to a real-life transsexual while the other followed misjudgements over the weight of a penis.

San Diego set to erect statue of ‘intolerant’ mayor 6 Gay groups and Latinos are uniting to fight plans for a statue of former mayor Pete Wilson to be erected in San Diego's downtown Horton Square.The former mayor, who is credited with revitalising the downtown area in the 1970's, is despised by immigrant groups for his attempts to deny illegal immigrants health and education benefits and by the gay community for his regressive views on sexuality."During Mayor Wilson's administration, it was like the dark ages for us," said gay activist Nicole Murray-Ramirez.

Persecution claims fail to halt deportation + The Canadian Border Services Agency has refused to back down in the face of claims its deportation of a young Mexican man will condemn him to persecution and violence.Leonardo Zuniga, 25, arrived in Canada in 2004, filing an unsuccessful refugee claim that was appealed.Since then he has been a model citizen, volunteering with various Toronto social agencies and picking up an award for photography and queer activism.

Florida mayor uses HIV to attack Florida gays 2 Fort Lauderdale mayor James Naugle caused outrage among Florida's gay community yesterday after he called a news conference announcing a drive against promiscuous gay sex.Framing the move as a public health initiative designed to cut down on HIV transmission, the conference nevertheless included prominent religious activists, including radio DJ Janet Folger of Faith2Action and Gary Cass, president of the Christian Anti-Defamation League."I think Broward County is forever changed from this exercise," Mr Naugle said.

Violence against Dutch gays on the increase 5 Over half of Dutch gays feel less safe than they did a year ago, a new survey carried out by current affairs programme EenVandaag has revealed.Sixty-four per cent of anti-gay incidents were verbal but 12 per cent resulted in physical abuse.Amsterdam's image in the Netherlands as the 'gay capital of the world' is also under threat as the survey revealed gays there were more fearful than in other parts of country.

Gay police to don rubber gear 2 Amsterdam's special homosexual police unit is set to don frocks, leather and rubber gear in the fight against homophobic attacks, it has been revealed.Lesbian officers will be sent undercover to infiltrate anti-gay gangs and gay activists are calling for judges to ban known gay-bashers from gay areas and pick-up spots.The plans are part of a concerted effort by the authorities to retain Amsterdam's image as the gay capital of the world following a spate of homophobic attacks and widespread concern in the gay community of increased violence.

Anti-gay Christian’s White House scam + A row has erupted in Latvia after the US government denied links with an anti-gay preacher who travelled to the country claiming to be an official White House envoy.Kenneth Hutcherson, founder of the Antioch Bible Church, is an outspoken opponent of gay rights.He travelled to Latvia in earlier this month at the invitation of the New Generational Church.

Polish official wants to ban gays from range of jobs 4 The Polish ombudsman for children's rights has drawn up a list of professions for which homosexuals are considered unsuitable.Eva Sovinyska has asked the government to impose a ban on gay and lesbian people doing jobs on the list.Gay teachers, or sport and art instructors in schools, would no longer be able to apply for work in their profession.

Stephen Fry opens up about school sexual assault 1 TV personality Stephen Fry has revealed that he was sexually assaulted by another pupil while at school.Appearing on the new More 4 programme Shrink Rap, Fry said that an encounter with a sixth former during his first year of boarding school led to the assault.The programme, broadcast next week, is presented by psychotherapist Pamela Stephenson, wife of comedian Billy Connolly.

Exclusive: On the front line with Christian protesters 10 Religious groups gathered around Parliament today to protest against the Sexual Orientation Regulations, which will be debated in the House of Lords tonight.Around 300 to 400 protesters attended the demonstration, carrying banners with the slogans: "Gay Aim = Abolish the Family" and "No to Gay Sex Lessons."Event organiser Phil Whealy told PinkNews.co.uk that the demonstration was supported by people across the UK.

Radio host apologises for gay slurs + American satirist Garrison Keillor has apologised for comments he made last week which caricatured gay men as "flamboyant" and questioned their suitability as parents.Keillor, a prolific writer and radio personality, is most famous in the UK for his role in last year's Robert Altman film, A Prairie Home Companion.He is also the voice of Honda UK's "Power Of Dreams" campaign.

San Francsico mourns loss of gaybourhoods 1 The Castro district in the Californian city of San Francisco is losing its sense of gay identity, say community leaders, and the same is reportedly happening across the United States.Chain stores and babies are replacing cruising sites and sex shops, according to residents, and it's down to three things: gentrification, an influx of heterosexual couples, and the feeling among the gay community that they do not need to live in ghettos anymore.

Ghana’s gays in human rights plea 1 Gay pressure group OutRage! has sent a letter to Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor demanding he repeal laws criminalising homosexuality in his home country.The President is visiting London this week to mark 50 years of Ghana's independence from Britain.Prince MacDonald, President of the Gay and Lesbian Association of Ghana, called for protests during the official visit.
