27 February 2007The case of a lesbian adoption and the IBM fortune + When Olive Watson and Patricia Spado discovered they could not legally marry in Maine in 1991, they decided to take a less conventional route to cement their rights.Ms Watson adopted Ms Spado, naming her as the sole beneficiary of her will and cementing her rights of inheritance.The couple split in 1992, but Ms Spado is claiming her share of inheritance as an official "grandchild" of Ms Watson's family. -

20 February 2007Gender surgery in Hounslow saved from axe + Plans to remove funding for sex change operations by Hounslow primary care trust have been abandoned after protests from a charity representing British transsexuals.The PCT planned to scrap funding on the grounds that the operations are "non-essential." 20 February 2007Transsexual MP stands down + Georgina Beyer, the first transsexual MP to be elected in New Zealand, has retired from her post.Beyer is also a Maori, and so a minority in more ways than one. Over the past seven years she has made history for transgender people.Not only was she the first transsexual in the world to be elected to national office, she was also the first transsexual in the world to be elected as a mayor. -

13 February 2007Wife Swap want gay or lesbian family + Controversial television series Wife Swap is looking for their first same-sex family to take part in the eighth series.The BAFTA-winning Channel 4 programme, which first aired in 2003, takes two families, usually with vastly different lifestyles.The families swap wives for two weeks. In the first week the women try to fill their counterpart's role, and in the second week they impose their own routine on their hosts.
