7 June 2007Scot arrested for murdering German too ill to go to court + The British man arrested over the murder of a gay German in Gran Canaria is too ill to appear in court today.The 39-year old man identified only as EB by police was arrested after he was found to have overdosed on drugs in a suicide attempt.Karl Heinz Thonningen, 44, was stabbed to death at 0500 on Saturday after returning home from gay clubs in the popular Playa Del Ingles holiday resort. -

7 June 2007Iranian partygoers released + Nearly all of the young men arrested at a party in Iran earlier this month under suspicion of being gay have now been released.Eighty-seven young men were originally arrested, and seventeen were held for "homosexual conduct" and drinking alcohol in a crackdown by Iranian police. -

7 June 2007Health study raises HIV worries in Bromley + A survey by the London Borough of Bromley has found that 40 per cent of gay men in the area have never had an HIV test.The study of LGBT people was intended to establish their health needs. It covered sexual health, accessing services, drug use and alcohol.It found that one third of respondents, both male and female, had not used any sexual health services in the last year. -

6 June 2007California assembly passes gay marriage bill + The first legislative chamber in California voted to allow same-sex marriage today, in a public snub to conservative Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.Gov Schwarzenegger has previously said that if the bill was passed by both legislative chambers, he would use his powers as Governor to veto it, as he believes that the measure should be passed either by the courts or by a referendum. -
6 June 2007Lottery win for older gay people + Older citizens in the Preston area have been awarded a £131,000 lottery bonanza - but this time, the much-needed cash is going straight to the LGBT community.The Preston and South Ribble branch of Age Concern have been awarded the money by the Big Lottery Fund.They will use it to help reduce the social isolation felt by people over the age of 55. -

One third of Conservatives would snub a friend's invitation to a Civil Partnership, and the only possible explanation is homophobia." -
6 June 2007Church adopts pro-gay guidelines 57 Northern Ireland's largest Protestant church yesterday adopted guidelines to help clergy deal sensitively with gay church members.The Presbyterian General Assembly in Belfast adopted the pastoral guidelines by 159 votes to 120.The guidelines call on the church to repent for times when gay people have been treated in ways that lack "grace." -
