White Supremacist Opens Fire @ At Holocaust Museum In D.C.

A gunman NBC News describes as a White Supremacist exchanged fire with security guards inside the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on Wednesday. U.S. Park Police Sgt. David Schlosser said the gunman walked into the museum with what he described as a “long gun.” The gunman and a security guard were shot. Both were taken to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries wasn’t immediately known. But of course the govenrment was wrong to warn us about right wing terrorists.

Christian Reformed Church takes up gay issues

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Christian Reformed Church in America takes up gay issues and an apartheid-era anti-racism statement at a general meeting this week in Holland.

The 166,000-member church opens its General Synod on Thursday.

The agenda includes adoption of a document known as the Belhar Confession. It was drafted in 1982 during the struggle against the white supremacist system of apartheid in South Africa.

Shock Jock Shock: Anti-Gay Radio Pundit Michael Savage Banned from UK

The British government banned 22 people from being allowed to enter the UK on May 5. Along with the Islamic clerics and white supremacists the Home Office barred for “spreading hate” appeared the names of two Americans: the Rev. Fred Phelps, whose Topeka, Kansas church, Westboro Baptist Church, pickets the funerals of American soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and conservative radio talk show host Michael Alan Wiener, known more widely by his professional pseudonym, Michael Savage.

Some fear anti-gay words will lead to anti-gay sticks and stones

Sen. Chris Buttars called gay activists “the meanest buggers” and alleged they have no morals. America Forever, in full-page newspaper ads, compared gay men and lesbians to “druggies” and “hookers.”

Just words. No sticks. No stones. But such talk does hurt. It can leave emotional scars and, some observers warn, inspire others to inflict physical ones.

Utah hit a national “hate watch” list twice in recent weeks for headline-grabbing onslaughts of anti-gay rhetoric.

“It’s not the kind of America we want,” said Heidi Beirich, spokeswoman for the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala. “You can have a difference of opinion over somebody’s lifestyle but to put them in a position of threat — that’s going too far.”

The national civil rights organization monitors hate groups, such as white supremacists, and publishes “Hatewatch,” a newsletter and blog that spotlighted the comments from Buttars, R-West Jordan, and America Forever.

“The kinds of things they’re saying,” Beirich said, “can give credence to others who would like to take their actions further than speech, into the realm of violence.”

The FBI reports that in 2007, the most recent year of available data, Utah had nine hate crimes motivated by sexual orientation bias.

Not that those who oppose gay rights mean to incite violence.

`Neo-Nazi’ beliefs behind Asian, gay murders

A white supremacist convicted of killing Korean backpacker Jae Hyeon Kim was also responsible for the murder of a homosexual Westport man in 1999 and will now spend at least 25 years behind bars.

Hayden Brent McKenzie, 31, appeared for sentencing in the High Court at Wellington yesterday after earlier admitting murdering Kim at Charleston, near Westport, in September or October 2003. McKenzie’s name suppression was lifted yesterday, but Justice Simon France made an order preventing publication of images of McKenzie or any description of his appearance.

The lifting of suppression means it can be revealed that in 2004 McKenzie was convicted and was four years into a life sentence for his part in the murder of James John (Janis) Bambrough in 1999 at Westport.

Yesterday, the judge sentenced McKenzie to another life sentence, this time with a non-parole period of 21 years.
