Mexico City Gay Pride Parade Draws Thousands

MEXICO CITY – Thousands of Mexicans marched peacefully through central Mexico City in the 31st Gay Pride March at which they demanded improvements in gay rights, watched over by some 1,500 police.

All transpired in calm at Saturday’s parade, Mexico City police department spokesmen said.

The annual march by lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals, transgender individuals and transvestites began at midday at the Monument of the Angel of Independence and it ended at the Plaza de la Constitucion later in the afternoon.

The participants this year called for maintaining a “separate” profile weeks before the general elections in which the lower house of Congress will be renewed, six governors and 606 mayors elected.

They also demanded improvements in security, health, sexual education and policies of equality to minimize the problems of discrimination that they still face in Mexico. See

Far right seeks to scuttle Defeat of State Department global women’s office

They are at it aginA: these so-called Christians who understadn God so well they can tell us what God wants us to do – which is always to live by the tenants of their religion.

Now self-proclaimed “leaders” of the “pro-life and pro-family” world (aka right wing nuts) are working to defeat legislation in the House that they calim would “empower the State Department to promote abortion and homosexuality in other countries.”

Horrors!

Where is the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) or these other “pro-life and pro-family” when it comes to providing American kids with food and good schools or effective healt care? Not on the front lline of fighting for these Biblic priorities – oh no! There’s no money to be reaised from “Conservative Christains” if you are talking about raising taxes to feed hungry children or prpvide poor famies with health care.

No matter that is what the Bible calls us to do time and time again.

These “leaders” know better than the Bible – better than the Bible – that God’s top priority is voting against a State Department authorization bill that would create an Office for Global Women’s Issues.

In part, they say the measure would push the State Department to pressure other countries to rescind laws restricting homosexual and transsexual actions, or at least that is the way they read the bill according to their latest fund raising effort.

‘We still teach hate,’ says mother of murdered gay man

GARY — Judy Shepard doesn’t forgive the men who killed her son, but she doesn’t blame them, either.
Shepard, at Indiana University Northwest on Wednesday night to talk about the torture and murder of her son, Matthew Shepard, said she gets “the forgiveness question” a lot when she talks to groups.
Mostly, she’s just confused by the thought, but what she knows for sure is that the two men who brutally murdered Matthew — Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney, who are serving life sentences — weren’t taught any better.
Thus, Shepard has made it her mission in the almost 10 years since his death to teach everyone possible that hate is a learned behavior that needs to be stopped.
“We still teach hate; it has to be a conscious decision to not go there,” said Shepard, invited to speak by IUN’s Center for Regional Excellence and Merrillville High School’s Socially Together and Naturally Diverse organization.
At times comical, Shepard described her home state of Wyoming as “not a hateful place at all,” but it is 96 percent white, with the rest of the 500,000-resident population either Native American or Latino. Even after the murder, Wyoming still hasn’t passed hate-crime legislation that includes lesbian, gay, bisexual or transsexual specifics, though Laramie, where the murder took place, has an ordinance against it.
Indiana also doesn’t have hate-crime legislation specific to the LGBT community, either, and she pointed out it likely won’t happen until something is passed at the federal level. Nevertheless, she remains hopeful. See ‘We still teach hate,’ says mother of murdered gay man

Transsexual wins $500,000 lawsuit

A federal judge has awarded a former Army Special Forces commander nearly $500,000 because she was rejected from a job at the Library of Congress while undergoing a gender change from man to woman.

Diane Schroer of Alexandria, Va., applied for the terrorism analyst job while still a man named David Schroer. He was offered the job, but the offer was pulled after he told a library official that he was having surgery to change his gender.

U.S. District Judge James Robinson ruled Tuesday that Schroer was entitled to $491,190 in back pay and damages because of sex discrimination.

Schroer said she was happy with the judgment but more importantly that the judge recognized her treatment as job discrimination. She said it’s a problem many transgendered people face.

“They are hugely underemployed, at best,” Schroer said. “If they are fortunate enough to get something, it’s well below their capabilities. It’s not just about money, it’s about knowing you are a valuable person.”

Schroer said she feels more fortunate than many transsexuals who face job discrimination because her friends have helped her get work as a national security and counterterrorism consultant.

‘Come Out’ – A New Voice in the Battle for Marriage Equality “It is wrong to treat LGBT people as less than heterosexuals

” NEWHALL, Calif., On November 4th, 2008, Proposition H8te passed in California and Rizi Nasele Timane’s “COME OUT” was born. It was born out of anguish and heartbreak. This OUT lesbian inspirational singer is a bold and necessary voice in our quest to spread the truth that God loves everyone, be they gay, straight, bi or transsexual. Rizi’s “COME OUT” is a compilation of original songs that focuses on challenging the status quo and fighting towards achieving full human rights for the LGBT Community. Her lyrics in the single “Come Out” and songs like “Do you know” provide a direct confrontation to the religious fundamentalist notion that God/Bible condemns homosexuality and strives to educate the public about what the Bible really says and does not say about homosexuality.

COME OUT’S ultimate goal is to enable any LGBT person who wants to know God but has been turned off by religion to know that God loves them just as gay as they are and also to help those who are struggling with their spirituality and sexuality, like Rizi did herself for many years (watch video of her story of “exorcism” and cocaine addiction by clicking the Rizi’s story link here: http://www.rizigospel.com/), to finally find complete reconciliation and affirmation.

“This horrible and painful struggle with religion/spirituality and sexuality is responsible for depression, low self-esteem, drug addiction, self-abuse, disownment by family, isolation, the entering into of false heterosexual marriages by LGBT persons, and worst of all, it’s responsible for thousands of suicides each year in the LGBT Community, especially amongst our teens and young adults — and it is my hope to put a stop to these negative traits and suicides by re-educating our community ….” — excerpt from Rizi Nasele Timane’

Presently, a series of Rizi’s 30-second TV commercials geared towards promoting this important message is airing locally in Los Angeles and San Francisco on Bravo TV and CNN (with a nationwide campaign on Logo TV to follow shortly). Ken Starr vs. transsexual in Prop 8 case

Kenneth Starr and Shannon Minter, lead attorneys in the California Supreme Court case that will decide the fate of same-sex marriage in the state, are as different as the competing sides they represent.

Starr, dean of Pepperdine University School of Law, is best known for leading the inquiry into President Bill Clinton’s affair with a White House intern.

Since then, the former federal judge and U.S. solicitor general has dedicated himself to conservative causes, including writing briefs for the Mormon church in a previous gay marriage case in California.

Minter, legal director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights in San Francisco, is a transsexual who spent his first 35 years as a female. He was a lead counsel in the state Supreme Court case decided last May that allowed same-sex couples to marry, a ruling that was reversed in November when voters approved Proposition 8.

Starr and Minter will square off Thursday in the most closely watched California Supreme Court hearing in a generation. They’re set to deliver oral arguments in three suits in which supporters of gay marriage contend that Proposition 8, which limits marriage to a man and a woman, is unconstitutional.

Minter, 48, representing gay rights groups, will be the first attorney to address the court in San Francisco. Starr, 62, will deliver the final arguments on behalf of the Yes on 8 campaign.
