The Puerto Rican magazine TVAqui just broke the news on its twitter page about its upcoming issue in which Ricky Martin openly confesses that his “heart could belong to a man or a woman,” according to Perez.
Martin who has repeatedly denied being gay has also been outspoken on the issue of closeted celebrities. Obama strong, but gay marriage, big gov’t could be tricky
While Barack Obama is flying high in public opinion polls, there could be trouble ahead on the issues of same sex marriage, big government, and party identification, according to Frank Newport, Editor in Chief of the Gallup Poll.
“The data actually show some areas of concern for the Democrats,” Newport said at a Monitor-sponsored breakfast with reporters on Tuesday. In addition to his role at Gallup, Newport is the incoming president of the American Association for Public Opinion, the nation’s largest association of public opinion and polling professionals.
Still mostly sunny
Of course, the possible trouble areas Newport outlines for Democrats have to be viewed against a political backdrop that is far from encouraging for Republicans. President Obama’s job approval rating is a robust 67 percent.
And as non-partisan political analyst Charlie Cook [no relation] says in his latest column, “Half a year past a second-consecutive devastating election for Republicans — in which they went further in the hole in the House and Senate and lost the presidency — are they any better off now? Are there any signs of a rebound? The short answer would appear to be ‘no’.”
But that does not mean the Obama administration has uniformly strong support on every issue. “I do not think the public has moved radically liberal on a lot of social and values issues,” Newport said. He noted that Gallup’s daily polling had found “a retrenchment to the more conservative on gun control as an example.”
“And there is some evidence even on abortion there may be somewhat of a retrenchment there.” he said.
Obama has been “very careful” on the issue of same sex marriage, Newport said, supporting civil unions but not marriage for gays. “Nevertheless I think that is an issue where the Republican Party might have an edge because the public remains conservative on social and value issues,” he said.

Supreme Court takes up dispute over endorsement of gay adoption by Florida Bar’s family-law section
State Supreme Court justices critically questioned both sides today in a dispute over whether the family-law section of the Florida Bar should be allowed to legally endorse adoption for gay couples. A circuit judge in Miami threw out the statute banning adoption by gays but the case is headed for the Supreme Court. The Bar itself has not taken a position but its family-law section sought to file a “friend of the court” brief supporting the circuit court ruling. Lawyers supporting the statute objected — saying the Bar shouldn’t be using compulsory dues paid by all lawyers to fight on one side of a controversial issue.
Tallahassee attorney Barry Richard said the family section is a voluntary association and that its lawyer members have a right to take positions. But Matt Staver, representing the conservative Liberty Counsel, said Bar rules forbid lobbying on either side of a hot topic.
The attorneys argued over the distinction between lobbying the Legislature and filing a legal brief in court. They also disagreed about whether a voluntary section of the bar is restrained by the same rules applying to the full bar.
Chief Justices Peggy Quince and Justices Barbara Pariente, Fred Lewis, Charles Canady and Ricky Polston pressed Richard and Staver on the legal distinctions.
Pariente said that if the prohibition on pursuing controversial, divisive issues had been interpreted as a ban 50 years ago, the Bar could not have taken sides on racial integration. Lewis said he doesn’t think much of “friend of the court” briefs, because they are usually partisan advocacy rather than independent guidance on the law, and that the public doesn’t make a distinction between a section of the Bar and the whole Bar itself.

Gay Former Clinton Aide Lashes Out at Obama Over Warren
It’s becoming clear that while the gay rights movement’s leaders are thrilled with Obama’s invitation to Gene Robinson to join inauguration festivities, lots of its rank and file are still deeply distressed over Rick Warren giving the invocation on Inauguration Day. As a reporter, it’s often tricky figuring out if a movement’s—any movement, from the Christian right to the antiwar left—spokespeople are truly representing whom they claim to speak for.
Without polls, it’s really impossible to know.
But I’m getting more and more angry comments and E-mails from members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community furious with their nominal leaders. This E-mail from a former Clinton White House aide who requested anonymity captures the lingering anger over Warren:
. . . [T]he problem here goes well beyond Warren’s incendiary language equating gay marriage with incest. He is what he is. The greater problem lies in the President-Elect’s cruel calculation that this insult and offense to gay America is acceptable collateral damage for whatever plus he sees in the suck-up to Warren, giving profile and platform to this mega-merchant of discrimination in the first program agenda item during the first official act of his first day in office. I was one of the 12 first-ever openly gay White House staff members to take up work the day following President Clinton’s inauguration. His respect for gay Americans was evident even when setbacks and disappointments slowed the change agenda, and he certainly did not deliberately nor unnecessarily scheme to sell out gay Americans on his first day in office to score points with opponents. Ordinary gay Americans will need to hold this new Administration to the tenets of its campaign and to the idealism of its Inaugural language — and to a fundamental expectation for respect. The Warren invitation remains a disgrace and a blemish on day one of the new Administration. Shame on Obama.
For a lot of LGBT folks, the heartburn over Warren will linger awhile. But what if Obama delivers on a major LGBT political goal in his first term, something like ending “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” like the president-elect’s spokesman recently promised? It’s hard to imagine the current gay ambivalence over Obama outlasting such a huge advance for the LGBT cause. The reality of policy would quickly overwhelm symbolic concerns.

Born via surrogate in August, Ricky Martin’s 4-month-olds make their mini debut in this week’s People and People en Español, on newsstands Friday.
The Puerto Rican singer, 36, opened up to the mag about the experience.
”Being a father feels amazing. This has been the most spiritual moment in my life,” says Martin, who doesn’t use a nanny.
“I’m the one who changes the diapers, the one that feeds them, the one that bathes them, the one that puts them to sleep.”
Why a surrogate mom?
”Adoption was one option, but it’s complicated and can take a long time.” Surrogacy was “intriguing and faster.”
