Gay rodeo gears up for riding, roping, dancing

The Greater Palm Springs chapter of the Golden State Gay Rodeo Association kicks off California rodeo season this weekend. Cowboys and cowgirls will display their riding and roping skills starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday through Sunday night at AC Dysart Equestrian Park, 2101 W. Victory Ave., Banning.

About 174 people have registered, participant Bill Barker said.

Attendees can also enjoy dancing and exhibits on the rodeo grounds. A dance will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn, 1800 East Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs.

Admission: $15 a day for rodeo events, $20 for the dance.

Kayne West takes ‘South Park’ gay fish barbs to heart, gets humble?

After seeing himself skewered on the “South Park” fish sticks episode earlier this week, Kayne West took to his blog.

But he didn’t exactly rip Kenny, Cartman and the crew a new gill, like you might expect.

He actually sounded more mature, circumspect and actually took the barbs like a man, not a gay fish.

“South Park murdered me last night and it’s pretty funny. It hurts my feelings but what can you expect from South Park!” he wrote. “I actually have been working on my ego though. Having the crazy ego is played out at this point in my life and career. I use [sic] to use it to build up my esteem when nobody believed in me. Now that people do believe and support my music and products the best response is thank you instead of ‘I told you so!!!’ ….

“I just wanna be a doper person which starts with me not always telling people how dope I think I am. I need to just get past myself. Drop the bravado and just make dope product,” the post continued. “As long as people think I act like a … , this type of … will happen to me. … I’m not actually a huge douche but I’m up for the challenge. I’m sure the writers at ‘South Park’ are really nice people in real life. Thanks for taking the time to draw my crew. That was pretty funny also!!”

UK’s MSPs back new gay hate crime law

A new law to widen the definition of hate crimes to protect gay communities and disabled people has moved closer.

Holyrood’s justice committee has backed the bill being put forward by Green MSP Patrick Harvie.

The Scottish Government has already said it will support the bill, meaning it is now almost certain to become law.

Crimes motivated by hatred of gay or disabled people would be considered aggravated offences, meriting tougher sentences.

The Offences Aggravated by Prejudice (Scotland) Bill would bring Scotland into line with the rest of the UK.

The committee’s convener, Conservative MSP Bill Aitken, acknowledged concerns that it would create a two-tier justice system, with some victims having more rights than others.
