It’s shocking, just shocking, that semi-nude photos of Miss California Carrie Prejean have emerged, right?
Not exactly.
The media have been watching Prejean’s every move ever since, on the Miss USA contest, she essentially came out against gay marriage.
That set off liberal critics — and attracted conservative supporters to Prejean.
This week, Prejean is in hot water because she supposedly breached her beauty contest contract by keeping the semi-nude photos a secret.
So she might lose her crown and her status as runnerup in the Miss USA contest.
Admittedly, it can’t be too shocking that a beauty contestant had some semi-nude photos in her past — photos that Prejean said were taken for a possible career with Victoria’s Secret.
The money quote from Prejean:
I am a Christian, and I am a model. Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos.
Prejean claims the release of the photos are an attack on her pro-Christianity beliefs.
That’s probably true, in part. But the larger reason is that Prejean is famous right now, and she’s going to get attention for this kind of activity — like it or not.

Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren continues to be haunted by past statements on gay marriage, and tried to soften his anti-gay marriage posture last week onLarry King’s show. Warren stood by his belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman, but said he’s never been an activist on the issue.
Part of what’s gotten him into hot water was a video-taped interview, available on the Internet, done before the Nov. 4 vote to implement the Proposition 8 gay marriage ban. In it, Warren seemed to liken gay marriage to incest, pedophilia and polygamy.
“I’m opposed to having a brother and sister together and calling that marriage. I’m opposed to having an older guy marrying a child and calling that marriage. I’m opposed to one guy having multiple wives and calling that marriage.”
The interviewer then asks, “Do you think those are equivalent to gays getting married?
“Oh, I do,” responded the megachurch leader, whose subsequent selection to give Barack Obama’s inaugural invocation stirred controversy.
Warren later posted a video on his Web site to try to clarify his view. But there was still more clarifying going on with Larry King last week.
“I am not an anti-gay or anti-marriage activist. Never have been, never will be,” he said. “During the whole Proposition 8 thing, I never once went to a meeting, never once issued a statement.
“The week before the vote, somebody in my church said, ‘Pastor Rick, what do you think about this?’ And I sent a note to my own members that said, ‘I actually believe that marriage really should be defined - that that definition should be saved between a man and a woman.’ And then all of a suddenly out of it they made me, you know something that I really wasn’t. …
“I wrote to all my gay friends, the leaders that I knew and actually apologized to them. That never got out. There were some things said - everybody should have 10% grace when they say public statements and I was asked a question that made it sound like I equated gay marriage with pedophilia or incest which I absolutely do not believe.”

It looks like there might be a job opening soon over at CNN. The bonehead who hired comedian Kathy Griffin could be facing the ax after her embarrassing performance as a co-host for CNN’s New Year’s Eve telecast with Anderson Cooper.
Griffin, who is known for her salty comedy act and spontaneous outbursts of off-color humor, was true to form. At the close of one segment, she made a particularly obscene remark, supposedly to an off-camera heckler that went out over the airwaves. But, wait, was she really channeling Cooper?
Griffin and Cooper were co-hosting the CNN special telecast of New Year’s Eve on Times Square. The “My Life on the D-List” star got into hot water after the ball drop, but while the telecast was still on the air. It’s unclear from the clip exactly who Griffin was talking to. The Cut @ NY Magazine reports:
“Urban Outfitters landed in some hot water earlier this week when consumers started to question company standards after an “I Support Same-Sex Marriage” T-shirt mysteriously vanished off shelves in California. Yesterday, Urban Outfitters reached out to us to comment on the situation: “The T-shirt was pulled because it was not selling,” a spokesperson for the company told us. “This is a common practice because sales space is so valuable, especially in this challenging economic climate.” See, the trickle-down effect of the economy? T-shirt sales are suffering, people! “The move was in no way indicative of a political agenda or our personal beliefs. In retrospect we wish that we had held onto it as a show of support.” That said, don’t expect them to balance the situation by returning the shirt to shelves. “We wouldn’t bring back the same T-shirt because it didn’t sell well. But the head merchant is open to finding other products that support gay marriage and carry the same message but will be more popular with our customers.”
“Meanwhile, the spokesperson also confirmed what our commenters speculated: Glen Senk, the CEO of the parent company, Urban Outfitters, Inc., is an openly gay man who has been in a committed relationship for over 30 years. However, Richard Hayne is still the founder and current chairman and does indeed have a record for supporting right-wing Republicans who are against abortion and gay rights. Lest we get cynical and think Senk was appointed to divert attention from Hayne, let’s hope instead that he got the job based on his merits and that maybe, just maybe, Hayne has changed his views a little. We can hope, right?”
