The New York Blade Suspends Publication

The New York , one of the two major and in , has laid off its editor in chief and suspended publication, the of its publishing company said on Wednesday.

“Everyone was let go, but the on The know that they may come back if The is coming back,” said the executive, Matthew Bank, of HX Media, which was formed in 2005 by the merger of The and .

The moves came on Tuesday after HX was sold to undisclosed buyers. The , a biweekly paper with a of 22,000, was left with an uncertain future.

“It doesn’t have an issue scheduled until a week from Friday.” Mr. Bank said. “There are a of things that can happen between now and then.”

The decision to suspend publication comes at a particularly active period for concerned with issues: the of the Stonewall riots and the parade on Sunday, the proposed same-sex marriage bill in the State and discontent over the administration’s performance on -rights issues.

Seattle Judge: Gay city workers names don’t have to be released, for now

A King has temporarily barred the release of the of city employees involved in a city-sponsored group for and workers to an anti- rights .

Erlick ordered that some requested documents be released Monday, with the of meeting redacted. The identities of city employees who received a “public ” through the group — likely wages on other compensation — may be released following a hearing later this year.

At issue Thursday was a request made by City Light employee and self-described “ leader” Philip Irvin, who had filed a public- request for the and meeting minutes for the department’s , , , , Questioning and Club. Irvin, who says he wants to start a for formerly employees, asserts that the club has discriminated against him for his to rights.

In issuing his order, Erlick acknowledged that releasing the employees’ identities could discourage others from joining the LGBTQF group. But, he said there remains a clear public interest in knowing who is receiving state benefits, and payment for meeting or other compensation to group , Erlick said, “is a public benfit.”

How long has Seattle supported gay rights?

While she was getting cities across the county to repeal rights ordinances in the , voters held the line — the first city in America to in favor of rights. The City of adopted a fair ordinance in 1973 which specifically prohibited against in the workplace, followed by a ordinance in 1975. But in 1978, 13 attempted to repeal the ordinances. It went down in defeat, and voters successful stopped the national movement to turn back the of rights. Since then, the cities of Tacoma, Spokane, and others followed suit; has elected openly city council for and is considered to have one of the largest in the nation.

Gay city employees fight to block release of their identities

Several City of workers have sued to prevent the release of and of a and employee .
At issue, according to a complaint filed in King County , is a request by City Light employee affiliated with a Christian who claims the city has opposed his efforts to a group for formerly workers.
The City Light employee — Philip Irvin, 58 — wants the city to release the of of city employee , specifically those of a Public Utilities “, , , , Questioning and ” group. According to , Irvin has also requested the and city departments of those who are of the group, or who have attended the group’s meetings, as well as copies of the group’s sign-in sheets, minutes and agendas.
Speaking to .com Thursday, Irvin said the city has previously opposed his efforts to start a group for employees who had identified as but have since become .
“They are the most vilified , and I’m sorry to say that they’re not really welcomed in the either,” Irvin said. “This is something where they are vilified on the right or the left.”
After receiving Irvin’s request in early May, city public- officers notified employees whose identities would be released. In response, an unspecified number of employees have sued the city asserting that state public-records law demand their identities be withheld.
