Report Warns Murder Rate Against Transgendered People Is Rising

A new report has found an estimated 200 persons were murdered from January 2008 to June 2009; which is enough to say that every three days a person is killed somewhere in the world.

The project was started by the (TGEU) and the journal ‘Liminalis’ in an effort to track and combat committed against the , , , and questioning () community.

The project compiled at least 121 from 2008 and another 83 for the year-to-date. show that the for is a , effecting , , , , , and Oceania.

“Furthermore that the number of reports of murdered trans is increasing in the last years,” the report warns. “The majority of cases have been reported from and .”

The report shows Brazil is by far the most in the world for the community. In 2008, 59 were murdered while another 23 were reported so far this year. Last year, 16 were murdered in the , the second most dangerous .

While the report is an effort to document all crimes, even its authors admit to the limitations of compiling a while continue to avoid reporting .

When Gay Pride Day Takes Two Weeks

| As happens with many Spanish , “Day” has rather miraculously been stretched out into nearly two weeks of parties, performances, , , exhibitions, conferences, and lots and lots of late-night . When I arrived here from nearly ago, Orgullo, as the festival is known, was already a five-day bursting at the with and activities and non-stop socializing from which the city’s , straight and undecided — often needed about five days to recover.

But has recently begun even further by its parade a week after the typical last-weekend-in-June date respected almost everywhere else around the . By ceding this Saturday, , to Spain’s provincial for their local , now guarantees that all of Spain will be free to attend its parade and parties on the following Saturday, this year on .

And indeed, in recent years has reportedly topped 2 million, making ’s Orgullo likely the largest party in of any stripe for four years .

Citing law, city reluctantly argues for release of gay employees’ names

As for all sides prepare to square off in court, the City of and a self-described “ leader” seeking the release of the of and city workers involved in a city-sponsored club have lined up on the same side of the issue.

In separate , the city and the City Light employee requesting the records argue that the state public-records requires that the city release the records. City of employees associated with the department’s , , , , Questioning and Club have asked the court to order the city not to release their .

Reiterating statements made by Seattle City Attorney Tom Carr shortly after the suit was filed, for the city now assert, reluctantly, that the records requested by City Light employee Philip Irvin.

“The city sympathizes with the concerns that have expressed,” Gary T. Smith said in . “Nonetheless, the city believes that the Public Records obligates it to disclose the records at issue.”

Irvin, who claims he’s been barred from attending LGBTQF because he is and opposed to rights, has requested that the city release the of employees belonging to or attending the Public Utilities-sponsored group.

According to the city’s filing, the department sponsors eight such “affinity” for employees “with similar concerns.” Included in the array are for employees of different ages or , including European. Each group is provided with up to $1,000 annually for , and are allowed to spend two work hours a month toward .

In arguing that the records should be released, for the city assert that earlier appeals- have shown that employee information must be released even if it could result in . The city cites a 2002 case in which King County was ordered by the state to release a list of sheriff’s .

Spanish clinic and travel agency offer gay marriage and fertility deal
