Baby boy for two gay police officers

Two gay police officers have had a baby boy after one of their sisters agreed to act as a surrogate so they could become fathers, it has been revealed.

Lorna Bradley (31) volunteered to have their baby when her brother Steven Ponder (28), a special constable, revealed a desire to start a family with Pc Ivan Sigston (43).

Both men, who live together in Southampton, Hants, were present when mother-of-three Mrs Bradley gave birth to William Campbell Ponder-Sigston last month at her home in Worthing, West Sussex.

Speaking from her terraced property yesterday Mrs Bradley declined to go into detail about the arrangement but said they knew the story might leak out.

She said: “It’s a bit shocking because we didn’t know it was going to be in the paper. We are just thinking about what we are going to do at the moment.

U&K Police sound alarm as anti-gay attacks rise

Senior police are “exceptionally concerned” about a recent spate of murders of gay men as figures reveal that homophobic attacks are escalating.

Campaigners say anti-gay violence has surged, and Scotland Yard statistics reveal a 9% rise in homophobic and transphobic offences to 1,372 in the year to April. Greater Manchester police recorded a 63% rise in homophobic crime. Acting Detective Superintendent Gerry Campbell, of the Metropolitan police, who headed a recent operation against hate crime that led to 292 arrests, said: “Homophobia cannot be considered a thing of the past, it’s on the increase.”

A confidential briefing note for Scotland Yard’s lesbian gay bisexual transgender advisory group, seen by the Observer, says nine “critical incidents” have been recorded in the force’s area since March 2008, compared with five incidents from 2001 to 2005. Recent cases include the murders of Daryl Phillips, 39, stabbed two weeks ago in Tottenham, north London, after arriving from Trinidad to escape homophobic bullying, and of Gerry Edwards, 59, knifed when he answered the door in Bromley, south London. His partner, Chris Bevan, 56, was also stabbed.

The new chief constable of Greater Manchester police, Peter Fahy, has expressed “alarm” about the rapid rise of such offences, from 327 to 533 in the year to April 2008. Paul Burston, author of The Gay Divorcee, said homophobic violence appears to be growing in both the number of incidents reported and in severity.

Gay “cure” policeman’s employment tribunal backed by those claiming to be ‘Christians’

A Christian policeman who was sacked after he sent emails at work suggesting homosexualityis sinful is to take Norfolk Police to an employment tribunal.

Complaints against former constable Graham Cogman stem back to 1995 when a gay colleague sent emails round to staff encouraging them to support Gay History Month by wearing a pink ribbon.

In response to this  PC circulated emails quoting the Bible, suggesting homosexual sex was sinful.

He was sent to a disciplinary tribunal who fined him 13 days pay and barred him from using the internal messaging system.

Despite the ban, PC Cogman posted a link to an American Christian helpline that offers to “cure” gay people.

He was dismissed following a disciplinary hearing in November.
