HBO RANKS HIGHEST IN THIRD ANNUAL “GLAAD NETWORK RESPONSIBILITY INDEX”

Networks for Third Year in a Row; and Receive “Failing” Grades for Lack of of the Community

Los Angeles, CA, July 27, 2009 – The &; Alliance Against Defamation () today released its third annual Network , a report that the quantity, quality and of of , , and () on . programming on the five networks was evaluated as well as original programming on 10 of the highest-rated .

scored the highest rating of the 15 networks evaluated with characters on shows including , The No. 1 and that reflect the ethnic and racial of the community. Of ’s 14 original series, 10 included content and 42 percent of the network’s total included representation.

Report Warns Murder Rate Against Transgendered People Is Rising

A new report has found an estimated 200 persons were murdered from January 2008 to June 2009; which is enough to say that every three days a person is killed somewhere in the world.

The project was started by the (TGEU) and the journal ‘Liminalis’ in an effort to track and combat committed against the , , , and questioning () community.

The project compiled at least 121 from 2008 and another 83 for the year-to-date. show that the for is a , effecting , , , , , and Oceania.

“Furthermore that the number of reports of murdered trans is increasing in the last years,” the report warns. “The majority of cases have been reported from and .”

The report shows Brazil is by far the most in the world for the community. In 2008, 59 were murdered while another 23 were reported so far this year. Last year, 16 were murdered in the , the second most dangerous .

While the report is an effort to document all crimes, even its authors admit to the limitations of compiling a while continue to avoid reporting .

The openly , best-selling author E. Lynn Harris died earlier this morning while on a book tour along the . The tour was in promotion of his eleventh , “Basketball Jones“, the story of a player in the NBA and his lover. While the is still unknown, his did say that the Harris’s had recently declined. Further questions, however, went unanswered. The , known best for his books centered on life as a , , was 54 at the time of his death.

Born in Flint, Michigan, E. Lynn Harris moved around a , finally finding his home and settling down in the South. Apple using double-standard for gay iPhone apps?

Apple is maintaining a double-standard when it comes to -themed apps, a claims. Attempting to draw , claims that his iGaydar title was rejected from the App Store on the same day as — an app based on the movie — was approved. iGaydar was rejected for “,” despite being considerably less graphic than the app, according to Ray.

iGaydar pretends to detect a person’s , first displaying a random percentage and then announcing a tongue-in-cheek statement, such as “Honey, not even your are straight.” By contrast the app lets users Cohen’s character, and touch various which can elicit potentially offensive responses. is only on the App Store as a result of major studio backing and , Ray charges.

Apple has rejected a number of apps with -related themes in the past, even when the titles did not show anything explicit. Naughty Loaded Dice was briefly blocked earlier in July, while an e-book reader, Eucalyptus, was temporarily blocked in May.
