Poll: Wide support for gay marriage in NY
(New York City) A new poll shows that there is broad support for same-sex marriage in New York State, but not for Gov. David Paterson (D).
The Siena College poll released Monday was taken just days before Paterson unveiled legislation to allow same-sex couples to marry in the Empire State.

Vermont closer to legalizing gay marriage
Nine years after becoming the first state to permit civil unions, Vermont moved a step toward legalizing gay marriage Friday.
A bill that would allow same-sex unions was introduced in the Legislature, causing a crowd of about several hundred supporters to gather at the Statehouse in celebration.
“This really is a great day and a part of moving forward to a time when all Vermont couples will be treated equally under our laws,” said a sponsor, Rep. Mark Larson.
A similar bill is expected to be introduced later in the state Senate.
The House legislation has 59 sponsors, none of them Republican, though some GOP lawmakers have said they’ll vote for the bill, Larson said.
“I know that there’s broad support in the House,” he said.
Despite the enthusiasm, it’s unclear if the measure will see any action this session, with lawmakers preoccupied with the state’s fiscal crisis that has led to voluntary pay cuts, court closings and Gov. Jim Douglas’s proposal to lay off more than 600 state workers.

Sweden To Become Seventh Country To Legalize Gay Marriage
A gay marriage bill introduced Wednesday in Sweden’s parliament enjoys broad support and is likely to pass, making Sweden the seventh country to grant gays and lesbians the right to marry.
The legislation aims to repeal a 1987 law defining marriage as a heterosexual union. A recent poll found that nearly three-fourths of Swedes (71%) approve of gay marriage.
Lawmakers in Sweden approved civil unions for gay couples in 1995. The law offers gay and lesbians the same legal status as married heterosexual couples, including the right to adopt.

Obama Outlines His Gay Agenda On WhiteHouse.gov
Talk about efficiency. WhiteHouse.gov, the official site of the President, was updated to reflect the changeover from President George Bush to President Barack Obama within a few minutes of Obama’s inauguration. Has anyone visited the site yet, and if so, have you seen The Agenda page?
