Dennis Herrera, San Francisco’s City Attorney petitioned a U.S. District Court Judge Thursday to allow San Francisco to intervene as a party plaintiff in a constitutional challenge to Proposition 8, the voter-approved amendment that bans gay marriage in California. The federal lawsuit was filed in May on behalf of two California couples. San Francisco lead the legal battle that resulted in the May 2008 ruling in favor of gay marriage that was later overruled by Prop 8. “We are long overdue to put anti-gay discrimination on trial based on the facts,” said Herrera in a statement. “The San Francisco City Attorney’s Office has the experience and expertise to aggressively assist in doing precisely that.”See City Attorney ready to lend a hand in federal gay marriage case The San Francisco Examiner

Gay Men Kissing Ousted From Chico’s Tacos in Texas
The Chico’s Tacos restaurant chain in El Paso Texas doesn’t like homosexuals eating their fast-food tacos and the police agree reasoning, that a business can refuse service to anyone it wants, despite the city’s anti-discrimination ordinance.
When two men briefly kissed at the popular taco chain, bigotry, homophobia and ignorance of the law came out in full force, beginning with the security guards’ hurling anti-gay slurs at the men and ending with the El Paso Police ordering the men to leave the restaurant or face a “homosexual conduct” citation.
The incident has garnered national attention and the taco chain faces a growing movement by gay rights activists to boycott the restaurant, with protests planned at the restaurant’s multiple El Paso locations.

Hundreds still scheduled to speak on gay rights amendment
A controversial amendment to an anti-discrimination ordinance is still up for discussion after the Anchorage Assembly didn’t get through all the public testimony Tuesday night.
The proposed law would make it illegal to discriminate against someone based on sexual orientation.
The assembly has already scheduled a special meeting for next Tuesday, June 16 to hear everyone who has signed up to speak about the ordinance.
More than 250 people remain on the waiting list to speak, which means another meeting might have to be scheduled to discuss this one ordinance.
Assembly Chair Debbie Ossiander, who represents Eagle River and Chugiak tried to begin the Tuesday meeting on a positive note. See Hundreds still scheduled to speak on gay rights amendment
