Aussie High school told to apologise

Gay activist Gary Burns has demanded an apology from a Catholic high school in Albury after it published an anti-gay letter in its alumni newsletter.

In a letter to the editor, former Xavier High School student Matt Price called for “a world free from homosexuals”, who, he said live lives devoted to drugs and sex.

His letter called for businesses not to employ homosexuals, with Price revealing that he lobbies CEOs with his message.

Price, who claims to be a ‘cured’ homosexual, said his new ‘heterosexual’ life allowed him to “lead/heal my spiritual life in the way I was guided as a child”.

Gary Burns told MCV the school was inciting violence against gay people.

“To publish calls for a world free of homosexuals is nothing less than an incitement to kill gay people,” he said.

Burns called on Xavier to “apologise unreservedly for this serious and illegal breach of NSW anti-vilification laws”.

Forced into closet by nation they serve

Wednesday in Annapolis, the United States Naval Academy welcomed the most racially and ethnically diverse class in its history: 14 percent Hispanic, 10 percent African-American – and perhaps 2 percent to 3 percent homosexual. I added that last part. No one knows how many plebes are gay or lesbian, but studies have placed the percentage of homosexual men and women serving this nation’s military in that range, with some 65,000 said to be on active duty. It’s a fairly safe assumption that a small percentage of plebes will have to keep their sexuality a secret if they want to graduate from the academy and, after that, fulfill their obligations to the country.

That’s what “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” demands.

It forces men and women serving the nation to lie about their sexual orientation or risk discharge. An estimated 13,000 men and women have been discharged under Don’t Ask in the 16 years since the law took effect. The Servicemembers Legal Defense Network says 277 of the discharges have occurred since Barack Obama became president. As a candidate, Mr. Obama pledged to end Don’t Ask. Last week, the he reiterated his support for eventual repeal of the law by Congress.

Skip Muller was a midshipman at the Naval Academy at the start of the Don’t Ask era. Prior to entering the academy, he had studied Russian at the Defense Language Institute in California.

“As an 18-year-old I struggled to understand my own sexuality, while all around me I saw people actively targeted, investigated and ejected from the military because they were homosexual,” Mr. Mullen writes on the Web site of USNAOut, an organization of gay Naval Academy alumni. “I forced myself to date women and live the lie that consumed and exhausted me for years to come.”

After graduating from the academy in 1996, Mr. Muller served two tours aboard destroyers, the second cut short by honorable discharge under Don’t Ask. See

National Guard: Gay Iraq veteran must leave service

A panel of New York National Guard officers has recommended that an Iraq war veteran who acknowledged his homosexuality must leave the service, his supporters said Tuesday.

First Lt. Dan Choi disclosed in March that he is gay, challenging the 1994 “don’t ask, don’t tell” law that requires the military to discharge troops who disclose their sexual orientation. Tuesday’s ruling, made after a daylong hearing, is a step toward stripping Choi of his officer’s commission and ending his career.

“It’s disappointing, but not unexpected,” said Sue Fulton, a spokeswoman for Knights Out, a group of gay and lesbian West Point alumni Choi helped found.

Sanjaya Malakar: I’m Not Gay

American Idol alum Sanjaya Malakar says despite what people may say, he isn’t gay.

“Like, yeah, a lot of people want me to be their gay best friend, and I make a really good gay best friend. But I don’t like guys, so it confuses people,” Sanjaya said on Tuesday’s I’m a CelebrityGet Me Out of Here!

Sanjaya’s sexuality came up after jungle-mate Janice Dickinson asked him to put guy-liner on, and he obliged.
