Montreal comedy duo Marc-Antoine Audette and Sebastien Trudel prank-called Governor Sarah Palin yesterday pretending to be French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Not only did Palin’s aide hand off the call but Palin stayed on the phone conversing for six minutes before the duo revealed to her that she had been fooled.
When fake Sarkozy told her he hoped she would be president one day, Palin replied: “Haha, maybe in eight years.”
Palin also responded to a compliment on heer hunting abilities: “Oh, very good, we should go hunting together. I think we could have a lot of fun together as we’re getting work done. We could kill two birds with one stone that way.”
While the fake Sarkozy asks her if she’s married to Joe the Plumber and tells her that “We have the equivalent of Joe the Plumber in France. It’s called Marcel, the guy with bread under his armpit,” Palin does not pick up on the joke.
Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs remarked on the call, saying, “I’m glad we check out our calls before we hand the phone to Barack Obama.”

The “No on Prop 8″ campaign urgently needs 10,000 volunteers on the ground to staff the final “No on Prop 8″ push. They’ve been signing many up but they need more.
The majority of volunteer work falls into two categories: (1) On Election Day, staffing polling place visibility events (100 feet away, of course) by passing out campaign lit and making sure voters know which way to vote, and (2) Visibility events in supportive areas: waving signs, passing out stickers and talking to interested voters.

Rex Wockner attended the anti-gay Christian right wing “The Call” prayer and fast rally to pass Proposition 8 on saturday. He has some frightening pictures.
Rex writes: “It’s too strong to say that attending this national Christian event in support of Proposition 8 today at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium made me feel raped or like a Jew touring a camp. But I did have those thoughts. Mega Prop 8 UPDATE: Weekend of Action
I’ve been making ongoing updates to this since my initial post and will continue to run this on the front page for the remainder of the day.
There is so much going on right now, I’ve tried to round-up all the Prop 8-related news I’ve received over the past 48 hours into this one post. There’s a lot. I encourage you to educate yourselves, and DONATE if you can. This weekend is extremely important, and THE CALL prayer rally in San Diego that the anti-gays are putting on is sure to draw a lot of attention.
The results of a NEW FIELD POLL were released last night: “A new Field Poll shows Proposition 8, one of the most closely watched state ballot measures in years, is supported by 44 percent of likely voters. Forty-nine percent oppose it, and 7 percent are undecided. In the last Field Poll, released Sept. 18, the measure was behind by 17 points. ‘It’s certainly closer than it was before the advertising campaign hit,’ said Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo. ‘A lot of that has to do with the campaigning on the Yes (on

The “No on Prop 8″ campaign condemned an official Proposition 8 mailer (pictured) targeted at African-American voters that misprepresents Obama’s position on Proposition 8. The Obama campaign released a statement in response to the mailer: “Senators Obama and Biden have made clear their commitment to fighting for equal rights for all Americans whether it’s by granting LGBT Americans all the civil rights and benefits available to heterosexual couples, or repealing ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” said a statement issued by campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt. “Senator Obama has already announced that the Obama-Biden ticket opposes Proposition 8 and similar discriminatory constitutional amendments that could roll back the civil rights he and Senator Biden strongly believe should be afforded to all Americans.”
Former San Francisco 49ers’ Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young, one of the Bay area’s most prominent Mormons, has posted “No on Prop 8″ signs in his front yard, a visible and significant break from the church that has funded the majority of the campaign to pass the anti-gay ballot measure: “In addition, records show Young’s wife, Barbara, has donated approximately $50,000 to the ‘No On 8′ campaign aimed at defeating Proposition 8. The “No on Prop 8:” campaign released a statement by 300 CALIFORNIA PEDIATRICIANS refuting the MD who signed the Prop 8 ballot argument. “The pediatrician statement took issue with Dr. Anderson, who identifies herself as a Fellow of the American College of Pediatricians. According to that organization’s Web site, the American College of Pediatricians believes homosexuality is “preventable and changeable” and that “spanking can be an effective component of discipline.”

The secret $1 million donor to the “Yes on 8″ campaign has been revealed. It’s Mormon bigot Alan Ashton, of Lindon, Utah. “According to the Deseret News, Ashton is a Mormon and grandson of David O. McKay, President of the Mormon Church from 1951-1970. Ashton made his fortune in software. The donation was reported by the Prop 8 campaign on October 28. The funds were in the form of matching funds to air a TV commercial that includes images of children who are being aired over the objection of their parents.” Ashton is the cofounder of WordPerfect. His fellow cofounder, Bruce Bastian, gave one million for our side.
As you may know, the “No on Prop 8″ website was the victim of a massive coordinated Denial-of-Service DOS attack by hackers which brought it down for several hours on Wednesday. The “Yes on 8″ people have been throwing everything they can at this, including plenty of cash. Yesterday I posted a video of spokesperson Brad Dacus comparing gay marriage to Nazi Germany!
Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Jeff Kent has given $15,000 to the anti-gay bigots. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has donated $200,000 to the anti-gay bigots: “Along with leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and evangelical Christians, Catholic clergy and laity have been active participants in the coalition of religious groups working to pass the initiative. Donations totaling $1.4 million have made The Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal organization, the largest institutional donor to the Yes on 8 campaign.”

A whirlwind of gay weddings
Just minutes before donning her prayer shawl, Rabbi Lisa Edwards beckoned the couple she was about to marry and sat them down to run through her checklist. As usual, Edwards had meticulously compiled notes about the ceremony in the pages of a giant black binder.
She reviewed the lineup of guests who would read during the ceremony of the two men.
“Lee and Marvin,” she said, naming Josh Wayser’s mother and her husband.
“It’s ‘Martin,’ ” Wayser corrected her.
She grimaced. “I hate when I get the names wrong,” she said, scribbling changes in her notes. “I don’t usually get the names wrong.”
But then, she usually doesn’t have so many names to remember.
At the beginning of May, Edwards, the rabbi of the Beth Chayim Chadashim synagogue in Los Angeles’ Fairfax district, had a single wedding on her calendar. Then the California Supreme Court struck down the state’s ban on same-sex marriage in mid-May.
Between mid-June, when gay couples could legally begin marrying, and the first weekend of November, she will have performed more than 40 weddings. All but one are same-sex unions. And that’s not counting her own wedding in July to her longtime partner, Tracy Moore, a fundraiser for public radio, which was presided over by a rabbi and State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass.
Edwards has bounced from small weddings to large ones, from her modest temple on Pico Boulevard to a rambling mansion in Santa Monica called the Victorian. She’s officiated in a Runyon Canyon home and on a Malibu deck. She’s been to Palm Springs, Running Springs and Visalia, where she married two women — who’d been together 37 years — the afternoon before the grandson of one of them celebrated his bar mitzvah. (“They tacked it on because everyone was already there,” Edwards said.)
It’s not uncommon for her to double up on Sundays with afternoon and evening weddings. (A Jewish wedding cannot take place during the Sabbath, which starts at sundown Friday and ends at sundown Saturday.) Labor Day weekend was her Super Bowl of weddings — she did four in three days. Each weekend this month she will officiate at three ceremonies.
The whirlwind wedding tour has left her exhausted but exhilarated.
