SACRAMENTO, CA - Supporters of Proposition 8 claim California school children will learn about gay marriage as part of their curriculum, unless same-sex marriage is banned in the state.
Yes on 8 spokesman, Chip White, said if the initiative fails, “public schools will have no choice but to teach that same sex marriage is the same as traditional marriage.” Opponents of Proposition 8 say the opposition is resorting to scare tactics, and that the initiative has nothing to do with education standards in California.
We’ll continue our discussion of Proposition 8 on Monday’s Live_Online at 11 a.m. Scott McDonald, with the Yes on 8 campaign, will be our guest.
Andrea Jackson, with the No on 8 campaign, was our guest last Wednesday on Live_Online and said marriage is a fundamental right for everyone.
Proposition 8 seeks to overturn a California Supreme Court ruling that allows gay marriage and would rewrite the California constitution to proclaim, “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”
Three states in the nation now allow gay marriage: California, Massachusetts and Connecticut. On Friday, Connecticut’s Supreme Court ruled same-sex couples have the right to wed and that civil union laws don’t give gay couples the same status as married heterosexual couples.
